And yet. Every day, I wake up, fearing that the primary sources of income for the sites may get shut down for arbitrary reasons. This is not OK.

Over the past decade, I've implemented many measures to police illegal content on the sites that I operate, and ensure that I operate within the bounds of local and international law.

Ton has a passion for creation that is incredibly contagious. I remember our talk on his vision for Blender, and now, 5 years later, parts of that vision are clearly visible in the final product. He is the guiding light for the Blender team, and that talk we had has inspired me to this day.

So to make it up to you; my most memorable celebrity encounter was with @tonroosendaal.bsky.social during a job interview at the Blender Studio back in 2019. A job which I ended up declining for personal reasons. But he and the team were very welcoming and accommodating during the interview/tour.

Other than the picture and some awkward greetings, my Grandpa Sawyer celebrity encounter involved almost no interaction with Grandpa Sawyer. Which is probably anticlimactic if you've read my posts up to this point.

John seemed to already be pretty buzzed, and he was kind enough to look at the camera while the owner insisted we pose for a picture with him. I imagine clinging to the early fame of your 20s and visiting small-scale horror Japanese conventions in your 70s is hard work, so I understand the mindset.

What followed was the most anticlimactic celebrity encounter ever. Our mystery guest was John Dugan, famous known as Grandpa Sawyer in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I hadn't seen it at the time, but had seen much worse, and lower budget horror schlock, so I felt embarrassed to not know who he was.

This piqued my interest, so despite my intent to catch the last train to the hotel, we stayed at the bar as late as possible to catch a glimpse of this famous Hollywood character.

We had almost given up around midnight. the famed mystery guest and his handler would arrive 5 minutes later.

There is a small izakaya/bar that I always visit when I'm in Tokyo. The owner and the regular patrons know me well, and it's always a good vibe. When I visited in December 2024, the owner mentioned that a very famous American actor had visited the past 5 days and would be visiting again that night.
