yep! it IS funny tho... finally it was gay fanfiction's turn after all the het romances that started as fic getting movies

(i actually have seen the quote where the author says it started off as original and she made it fic just to post on ao3 to get feedback prior to publishing but idk if i believe that lol)

the first book of the series did, afaik the remainder are original. the show is based on book 2 (completely diff teams and focus couple, but does have characters from book 1 show up)

SA all the way down is really sports in general :( actually one of the books in the series (not one of the 2 focused on shane and ilya) deals with that a little

YEAH THAT'S SO BLEAK. i find it easy to believe but it's very sad

and yes the sexy scenes are sooo good

lol yeah shane and ilya takes place over 10+ years and 2 books so it necessitates some time jumps but it was jarring on my first watch too
