With the governance transition in the city of Minneapolis, the mayor is now overstretching his powers. He shifted $10m from one priority he and the council allegedly agreed on - neighborhood safety interrupters, proven to decrease crime - To the MPD. What is the power of the council? Purse?

The GOP enacted civil service reform.
The GOP will destroy civil service reform.
The GOP is NOT the same party that it was. Keep this in mind when they claim Lincoln as their own

Is he really up for this? Does he really want to be Governor of Minnesota? If so, he needs to dig into these messes as a problem solver, but instead he keeps governing by press release, videos and paid influencers.
Team Walz has actively discouraged other Dems from leading on this.

Asked by reporters about the figure cited by federal officials on Thursday, Walz said he did not know the source of that estimate. “I don’t know where they are getting that number,” he said. “I don’t think we know yet. It certainly could be — we don’t know on this.” He estimated that the state would have a better idea of the fraud’s impact in late January.
Mr. Walz has said that his administration may have erred on the side of generosity during the pandemic as the state pushed out large sums of money quickly, seeking to keep Minnesotans housed, fed and healthy.
“The programs are set up to move the money to people,” Mr. Walz said in an interview. “The programs are set up to improve people’s lives, and in many cases, the criminals find the loopholes.”
Governor Walz's quotes on the fraud are abysmal. Mind you, we are years into this.
Public employees are being offered insulting raises at the bargaining table; this is a slap in the face. He's shutting down corrections jobs in Stillwater without a plan. The cannabis rollout has been tumultuous.

We’re hearing reports that ICE detained a U.S. citizen for 24 hours here in the Twin Cities.
To be clear: Detaining law abiding citizens is unconstitutional. And rounding people up because of the color of their skin is disgusting.

And we essentially give our city police departments an open checkbook. As perhaps we should. These debates do not seem to be happening in public. This is an outright erosion of our public institutions and this is how it’s happening.

I'll say again: we are oddly selective about the government services about which we will say, they operate at a loss.
We say Amtrak and the post office "lose money" but we never say highways, the court system, the Pentagon, etc lose money

What I mean is. Citizens are being arrested without cause. Billions are being stolen from public coffers. The voting rights act and campaign finance law has been totally reshaped. The 2nd amendment has bene warped. The right won its project.
Time to reset.

In some sense, tracking our politics in blue and red from a national perspective is a distraction. Pendulums swing. The campaign industrial complex is a multi billion dollar machine.
Dems lost the court. Lost Bush v Gore. Lost abortion rights. Gun laws have been reinterpreted. Dems lost.

Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.
Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:

This is an important point. I recently renewed my expired passport. My state-issued birth certificate was my proof of citizenship. If that no longer works then I (and likely most Americans) can’t prove citizenship, even though my family has been here since the late 1600s.

This is a budget conversation, not a police conversation, and the council has the right to debate and set the budget. For the mayoral departments to abuse the budget is the question.

I have a grand total of zero patience left for the top paid city staff in charge of community safety not being able to answer basic questions about crime trends and personnel allocations as we deliberate our budget.

Casey Carl has filled the real council chambers with 13 mannequins and is doing reenactments (he does all the voices and costumes) for how he thinks council meetings "should have happened."
And he's making a continuing series of unbelievable excuses for why it's not ready for the real council members to move in
A plausible theory for why the city council hasn't been moved back to city hall yet.

The entirety of the left/liberal friction in Democratic Party politics is summarized by how one looks at basically anything Hakeem Jeffries says and if your reaction is "Jesus fucking Christ we could do so much better than this" or "I like the way he's not Donald Trump"
That's it. That's all of it.

His handling of fraud has been occupational malpractice. Not because of what happened. The administration lacks a coherent response.
The DFL itself is set up only to reelect him. Plato attempted to trash a GOP gubernatorial candidate by attacking our justice system -Inconsistent with DFL values.

The real real reason Walz is running for reelection was to prevent a scenario where Ellison would win the endorsement. With her and Peggy and Keith sharing the primary ballot. it was drawn out all Summer. Clearly he was not enthusiastic about wanting to continue his work for Minnesotans.

Trump pardons Cuellar. Hakeem Jeffries says defended the move, calling the case “very thin” and the pardon “the right outcome.”
And Jeffries complimented Trump on the border.
The higher ups of the Democratic party are putting their fingers on the scale for Craig over Peggy Flanagan for US Senate.

Billionaire philanthropy isn’t charity.
It’s PR to distract you from low wages, labor exploitation, and a tax system that’s rigged for the rich.

The Somali diaspora in Minnesota didn’t begin in Minneapolis. It began in Greater Minnesota — in Willmar, St. Cloud, and other towns where meatpacking plants offered hard, essential work. Somali refugees came as workers, filling jobs that sustained local economies.

I agree. We need more government employees doing this work that has been outsourced to nonprofits. It is an undeserved black eye on public servants. And yes, the oversight was lax; even today, years later, the response has been deafening (as in quiet and non-existent)

Glad to see you've come around on charter schools, Lynnell. :)
In all cases, union members working for government delivery services work much more efficiently than these nonprofit models that seem ripe for fraud and are lacking oversight.

The President’s blaming Feeding Our Future, but the fraud he’s talking about was enabled by the CARES Act — a bill he signed that gutted oversight to get money out fast. It’s also the law that allowed members of Congress to pocket PPP loans for their own companies.
