A fun excerpt from Deloitte's report: "In addition to these recommendations for the Executive Leadership Team to action within their operational delivery mandate, broad areas of strategic choice for elected members have been identified, which would provide further levers for improving the Councilβs financial position. These include and require political direction: β’ Moving to regional centres of excellence β’ Divestment of surplus or under-used assets β’ Move closer to full cost recovery for revenue generating services β’ Unlocking value from underutilised assets (e.g. leasing) β’ Establishing alternative revenue streams (e.g. naming rights and sponsorships for Council facilities) β’ Monetising data and digital infrastructure (e.g. data-as-a-service offering) β’ Alternative delivery models for asset delivery and ownership" https://wellington.govt.nz/-/media/news-and-events/news-and-information/news/files/2025/future-fit-poneke-report.pdf
Government should never be run like a for-profit corporation.
"Full cost recovery" of public goods and services is austerity to low-income workers and marginalised communities.
Austerity is the disease, renewal is the cure.
Privatisation is a false solution.

Deloitte receives $435k of public funds to produce a report that recommends austerity, asset selling, and AI snake-oil for Wellington City Council.

#NZpol Wow, Casey Costelloβs announcement, 'Puberty Blockers Banned For Children', at NZ First is a demented, ideological rant π Complete with passages in bold font.
Itβs the sort of stuff I expect from anti-vaccine campaigners whoβve moved well past reason. (An area Iβve followed for a long time.)
It's so pathetic watching a multi-billion-dollar American corporation spending millions arguing that their workers are not workers,
instead of paying their workers with those millions they've wasted.
There's no sympathy in their laughable loss across multiple courts.

National doesn't care about rangatahi getting suitable, long-lasting jobs - or even getting into education and training.
They only care about jobseeker numbers going down.
And when that's the goal, nothing is more effective than inflicting austerity to our most marginalised communities.

The Greens will repeal the Regulatory Standards Bill.
But ACT won't give up.
They will spend millions into fooling voters that free market capitalism is the only future left for New Zealand.
However, you can help stop ACT from getting even more power.

In our view, the reason these features came to the fore in this investigation can be found in certain aspects of Police culture β a culture which is deeply rooted in the history, traditions and practices of law enforcement agencies in all jurisdictions comparable to New Zealand. This culture emphasises the importance of hierarchy. It fosters a positive group ethos; promotes a strong sense of collegiality and loyalty to colleagues; rewards those who support the organisation and protect it from external criticism; and thus helps to maintain organisational solidarity.
Mark Mitchell on RNZ Morning Report saying "just a few bad apples, rest of the Police are all goods". But the IPCA doesn't really seem to agree with this assessment?

Disappointed to hear the new Police Commissioner say on RNZ this morning that it was a failure of leadership and not systematic. Those 'leaders' were created by the system. Women needed to hear recognition that it could be systematic and a determination to investigate and deal with that.
