In case this helps you interpret those numbersβ¦
Once the semester was complete, I ran a correlation analysis to see if there was a relationship between the amount of practices they say they did regularly and their average in each of the categories of the gradebook.
Hereβs the result. * = statistical significance.
What do you think? 3/3
Midway through the semester, I asked students to reflect and check off how many they do regularly.
I tallied their responses and held on to them until the end of the semester. 2/3
You may find this interesting #langchat and #edusky.
I tried to deconstruct what I consider to be realistic and attainable micro-practices (before, during, and after class) of successful students in my classes. Intention is to be clear regarding expectations and encourage successful habits. 1/3
Excited that the March NECTFL Review issue features a peer-reviewed article I co-authored with Nancy Zimmerman of @kutztownu.bsky.social on the @psmla.bsky.social Peer Mentoring Program and its impact on language teacher growth and sustainability! #langchat

Whenever my brain gets all whipped up, I try to center myself on my core beliefs and principles. So, I wrote a blog post about what I see as the core aspects of teaching a language for proficiency. I'd be curious what your reactions to this might be...! β€οΈπ

Do we really not know? I was just mentioning today at my #nectfl25 presentation the case of Nicaraguan Sign Language. There are scholarly accounts (a couple I have off hand attached) but Stephen Pinker also uses it as a foundational vignette in his book The Language Instinct. Worth exploring.
