Some journals are claiming that you need to pay big $$ for gold open access to comply with NIH's new public access policy. FYI that is total bs. You can comply by depositing the Accepted Manuscript into PubMed Central on the Date of Publication without embargo. Pass it on.

17.05.2025 04:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is an incredibly informative piece on critical animal research in surprising ways. Please read.

Please consider signing in solidarity with colleagues at UMass Amherst and other universities targeted by recent threats.

For my birthday, please call your representatives and senators. Let them know you are concerned about your friends and loved ones who have cancer or rare diseases getting treatments and services they so desperately need. Science saves lives. 7/7
23.02.2025 04:20 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0My concerns are not unique. Everyone who has a child with a rare diseases is concerned about research and healthcare now more than ever. Anyone who had cancer and beat it due to amazing treatments should be concerned that medical research is in a holding pattern and others wonβt get the same. 6/n
23.02.2025 04:20 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I worry daily that Grayson will have a seizure that lands him in the hospital. At night, I listen to the sound of his breathing for any change that happens with a seizure. Iβm concerned heβs outgrowing his equipment, my ability to carry him, and weβll need shortly to modify our house or move. 5/n
23.02.2025 04:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm concerned about potential cuts to Medicaid. Medicaid coverage for Grayson pays for diapers, wipes, G-tube food and supplies, meds, wheelchair, leg braces and gait trainer (walker). Without services, meds, equipment, and after school care will be unaffordable. 4/n
23.02.2025 04:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm concerned that without a job I wonβt have affordable healthcare. 3/n
23.02.2025 04:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I concerned Iβll lose my job since it depends on NIH funding; Iβm submitting grants but NIH reviews and funding decisions currently arenβt happening. Plus, the research we are doing into Graysonβs rare disease will stop (no one else is working on it) and he will lose the chance for a treatment. 2/n
23.02.2025 04:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs my birthday! It should be a happy day, but I canβt stop thinking about the personal domino effects that are likely to happen as a direct result of the drastic changes happening in our government. 1/n
23.02.2025 04:20 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0To my friends and colleagues at UAB, IU, UF, FSU, UL, WashU, OSU, CWRU, etc, etc. Call both your senators and your representative. They listen. Emphasize the direct economic impact of NIH research, and the indirect impacts on pharmaceutical/biotech. Underscore its relevance to national security.
08.02.2025 03:26 β π 140 π 92 π¬ 6 π 3Is the "temporary pause" of disbursement of all federal grants/loans an unlawful impoundment? It almost certainly is. A brief π§΅

23.01.2025 17:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0No study section...no grant reviews
No grant reviews...no grants awarded
No grants awarded...no research
No research...no functional NIH
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sectionsβthe independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.
Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
My NIH study section that was to meet tomorrow was one of those canceled. This represents many months of work by the applicants and by the NIH staff and reviewers. Devastating is the correct word.
