Empowering strategic enrollment management in higher education

05.08.2025 15:34 β π 14 π 6 π¬ 6 π 1My understanding is a lot of the goods not covered by USMCA are because of origin rules. Often apparel/textiles, cosmetics, tobacco, and some food products. But this doesnβt seem like a big part of Canadaβs exports. Decent overview www.cbc.ca/news/busines... but from way back in July !
01.08.2025 02:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On the domestic side Iβm curious why the proportion moved up at all over the years
24.07.2025 02:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Interesting that the gains in international proportions diminished between the 2014 and 2018 groups relative to 2010-2014 groups. This coincides with the largest growth for international students but does that suggest fewer proportionally stayed? Doesnβt line up with expectation
24.07.2025 02:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hadnβt heard of this one but Iβm inclined to agree that there will be myriad more use cases in the future. Will be interesting to watch the field develop.
12.07.2025 15:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 04/ For instance, what if you added something about "social mobility" or "people like me can't get ahead"? How would the results change?
Imagine if our politicians panicked about people not being able to get ahead and not about "affordability".
Nice looking hockey stick curve eh?
26.06.2025 01:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0you mean $500 for a one way from Edmonton to Vancouver isnβt a bargain?
20.06.2025 19:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think part of the issue here is many are getting better at exploratory analysis (identifying patterns etc) but not always at explanatory analysis (communicate or justify findings, leading more directly to decision support). Most data people are more natural at former and have to practice latter.
13.06.2025 01:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah I guess thatβs it. Interesting to note the silence of the provincial orgs on this too.
06.06.2025 05:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I havenβt seen anything from organizations like Universities Canada or CICan either. I would have thought theyβd be a voice if individuals werenβt.
06.06.2025 02:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You may remember the Ford Govt from such policy triumphs as "Mass Slaughter in Long-term Care Facilities" and "Housing? What's That?". Now it wants to remove universities' right to select their own students. Biggest assault on uni autonomy in Canadian history.

Agreed. But getting two people to have a conversation on predictive modelling is real challengingβ¦

Iβll be real curious to see how they plan to intentionally attract top talent given their record.
28.05.2025 03:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It will be interesting to compare our outcomes 5 years from now compared with other jurisdictions also actively cutting international enrollment such as Australia, the UK, and the US.
17.05.2025 03:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How we respond to ensure domestic and international students still have opportunities will heavily influence our prosperity in the decades ahead.
17.05.2025 03:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0International tuition revenue kept challenges out of sight out of mind for years, but the Marc Miller era of hard cuts and poor communication have combined to make a major challenge for postsecondary in Canada.
17.05.2025 03:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Helpful analysis from @alexusherhesa.bsky.social on how government spending priorities have kept funding to post secondary trending down for years.
17.05.2025 03:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Curious about this too. Havenβt found a good resource. Global seems easy nationally but not locally
29.04.2025 02:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Most of mine have a full section devoted to how long it will take to pay off if you only make the minimum. Hard to miss.
23.03.2025 19:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Japanese strawberries are amazing though. Better deal to go to u Pick where you pay by how long youβre there and can eat as many as your body can take.
21.03.2025 14:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I keep seeing the * Trudeau bumper stickers and wondering if they'll become collectors items now :P

13.03.2025 20:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0BREAKING. For my CDN HE colleagues - we've become uncomfortably acquainted with Marc Miller as immigration minister, and seen weekly changes to INTL education. Things are changing again.
Of course, also an election in the air, and all could change again after that.

Some other ideas:
- Atami: relaxing, popular.
Kamakura: history (especially kotoku-in and Hase temple)
- Ryogoku: sumo (tokyo)
- Kawagoe: small old city
