The report does outline some all important positive signs: e.g. Morocco committed to phase out coal, Colombia has a moratorium on new oil and gas exploration. The energy transition is accelerating
But they say it how it is - we are in trouble

A LOT of work goes into these warming estimates. Bravo @climateactiontracker.org
Sadly governments are not putting in the same amount of work. They're cooking the planet.
Check out the IEA NZE here tinyurl.com/2ctf7mrx (but ignore the unrealistic-zombie-nightmare (CPS) scenario)
For a nice comparison, see this new high ambition pathway by @climateanalytics.org and the REMIND team at @pik-potsdam.bsky.social - tinyurl.com/y9m8z8jk
Despite this, we've fallen behind the original NZE. The updated NZE shows emissions falling immediately to limit peak warming to ~1.7Β°C, with deep cuts and carbon removal needed to then pull back to 1.5Β°C.
Another 5 years of delay would add a further 0.1Β°C to peak warming - we cannot afford this
The IEA's first net zero scenario (NZE), published in 2021, showed emissions peaking immediately and falling to net zero by 2050.
Today they published an update. Although we are behind on most things, solar and wind deployment moved EVEN FASTER than the first NZE suggested. A little ray of hope.
Really worth a read!

With sufficient data in for July, the year-to-date estimate of India's fossil COβ emissions is now +0.3%.

The ICJ gave a remarkably assertive ruling on the obligations of states in tackling climate change yesterday.
This story about the grassroots efforts by Pacific islanders to make it happen is really worth a read.

Iβve started my train-bike-ferry tour from Berlin to Leeds for Scenarios Forum! @priestleycentre.bsky.social
So far so good! The train to Amsterdam was long and delayed, but the ride to Rotterdam was beautiful π²βοΈand I enjoyed calm seas and a distant offshore wind farm on the ferry to Hull π¬οΈπ’
Big climate litigation news today on Lliuya v. RWE in Germany. Court rules that major emitters may be held accountable under (German) civil law for climate damages internationally. This has far reaching implications. 1/
