Awww. I'd say the lesson is moreso that news orgs are still way too eager to give away long-term biz value to Big Tech.
This hack works on most paywalls, not just NYT. They *purposefully* leave it to goose daily traffic stats.
I often use it to read the petty stuff myself tbh. So no judgment. π

For all the press in NY, imho there's an obvious possible explanation for the Mets' clubhouse woes that's barely gotten attention: money. If you look at the reported friction points among players this offseason, it maps pretty well to the hierarchy of who's making more and/or has a longer-term deal.

Trump II offers crypto welcome regulatory wins β and big reputational risks
Market watchdogs are working together, IPOs are back, and Polymarket is eyeing a U.S. return. But the First Family's grifting looms large.
In the latest #w3w newsletter: Imho the #crypto industry should beware π's constant grifting. It could eventually create a public perception headache for *everyone,* in a way that makes the FTX fallout look like a day at the beach. In the Bahamas, if you will.

Do you have to be *extremely* cost conscious or even just slightly? The markup they charge vs PCs with comparable specs is insane. Plus the walled garden problem, lack of compatibility, etc. I'm on an Ubuntu PC for cost + interop with my Android phone (or whatever TF else I want to use, ever).

AI's impact on jobs won't be just about the tech
Whether new tools help or harm human workers may depend less on the software itself and more on who's in charge.
In the latest #w3w newsletter, I think I just set the world record for most work ever put in by a pair of parentheses. πΉ
This edition also amplifies some important takes by others re: perhaps the most burning question in #AI: How will it affect employment?

I dunno. He's undermining it for sure. But *destroying* it?
His uncle is basically responsible for Americans landing on the moon. A thousand years from now, if this country ceases to exist as a political entity, like Byzantium or Persia, America will be remembered for *that.*

Tech's money machine is evolving
For better or worse, crypto treasuries and Uncle Sam are transforming Silicon Valley's funding landscape radically.
#Startups and public #tech companies alike have been raising money in surprising ways lately.
In: #Crypto treasuries and selling shares to Uncle Sam.
Out (sort of): traditional #VC funding rounds.
For fuller detail, check out the latest #w3w newsletterβ¦

Reminder: Cut the algos from your news diet.
Itβs one of the best things we could all do to have better small-d democratic discourse. Hereβs how I do it.
To find the news stories that are truly most important each day, rely more on human-driven curation, not algorithmic sorting. In the latest #w3w newsletter, I re-visit some tips to help news consumers do just that.

Intel CEO unexpectedly faces Trump's ire
Presidential pressure for Lip-Bu Tan's ouster raises fresh questions about national security, manufacturing, and whoβs really protecting Americaβs tech edge
In the latest #w3w newsletter: The Wall Street Journal reports that Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has argued this year against board-level proposals to close or sell the companyβs U.S. chip plants. So why does President Trump want him ousted?

Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.
Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.
Do not.

Emerging tech's toolmakers are winning.
Ethereum stakers and Nvidia's AI-fueled chip sales highlight an old lesson about market booms.
In the latest #w3w newsletter, we consider the examples of Nvidia in #AI and #Ethereum stakers in #crypto. The common thread: Theyβre making money off emerging tech without leveraging themselves to the big product breakthroughs most outsiders tend to associate with each category. Hmmβ¦

Yeah, a WC sounds about right. So far, I guess it's also helpful that the Braves have been a hot mess, never really gotten into the race. Phillies are NY's only competition in the East, really. Let's hope that doesn't change...

I agree, but would also say that if you read NYT or Washington Post for a month, focused on a particular bill, you would *definitely* understand its major details. The prob of people being uniformed isn't just the news orgs' fault; it's also our society becoming aliterate.

How 2025's tech bull isn't like earlier runs
The first half's gains were fueled by AI and bitcoin β with a big helping of chaos on the side.
Using the latest #w3w newsletter to do a first-half markets check, focused on #AI, #bitcoin, and other areas of #tech. Itβs a day early, admittedly. But better to jump the gun a bit than get to this too late. π

Pirates Mascots | Pittsburgh Pirates
Learn about the Pirate Parrot, Pirates Pierogies, Bucco Brigade and Ball Girls.
I was today years old when I discovered the Pirates Pierogies, a group of mascots that stage footraces at Pittsburgh's #MLB home games. As a Mets fan, I initially thought they were empanadas tbh, which was puzzling indeed. Too much of an NYC filter, I guess...
