We at The Steady State have studied the indicators of authoritarianism for decades — usually dry words in intelligence reports. But sometimes, a single photograph says it all.

Authoritarianism doesn’t arrive all at once. It creeps in under cover of “order,” cloaked in uniforms, justified by fear.

1. Pass whatever budget you want and be accountable for the results
2. Don’t pass a budget and let Trump continue his illegal spending spree, and be accountable for the chaos
3. Collaborate with Democrats, promise to stop the criming and illegal recissions, pass a reasonable budget

If U.S. states have any degree of sovereignty, if there’s any states’ rights at all, it is the right not to be invaded by the armed forces of another U.S. state.

Any meaningful peace plan will appease three constituencies: Israelis who need security, Gazans who need food and shelter, and American billionaires who need to stop hearing about protests at their alma maters.
