This weekend, and next, Family Week Programs will be taking place across Ward 2, supported by my office, including free swims and free skate rentals. I'll be back at the Pier 8 Outdoor Rink on Saturday, February 21 from 1pm to 3pm. Hope you can take time to enjoy these programs! #HamOnt

You’re totally right. There are serious issues in Wards 1 and 5, too!

Thanks for letting me know and sorry to hear that happened. If you can email us at Ward2@hamilton.ca, with the pictures, we can look into this. I know we’re planning work here so it would be good to know.

I'll be meeting with Beasley and Central neighbours at Simone Hall in Beasley Park at 7pm on February 26. I'll present information on City work in these neighbourhoods and connect with residents one on one. Refreshments will be provided. Hope to see you there! #HamOnt

I've heard from residents in the Central and North End neighbourhoods about an strong odour coming from the area around Bayfront Park. While I can't be sure what it is, I've heard from many, including some experienced environmentalists, who tell me it's coming from the CN shunting yard. #HamOnt

There's been a lot of discussion about Council lunches lately. I think it's worth unpacking some of what's happening and why. As someone who has never participated in the Council meal program, and can clearly afford to buy my own lunch or brown bag it, I agree we should get rid of it. #HamOnt

Reminder that we're running our Ward 2 Community Grants program differently this year (due to the municipal election). If you're applying in 2026, please get your application in before March 7. You can apply and learn more at ward2hamilton.ca/grants. #HamOnt

Today, in a vote of 14-1, Council supported my motion to continue business recycling until the end of the year without raising 2026 taxes. Thanks to my seconder, Councillor @nrindernann.bsky.social, and BIAs and businesses from across the City for reaching out with your concerns. It matters. #HamOnt

This chilly week, we are taking a quick look back at tobogganing! During the 1880s, tobogganing was a craze in Hamilton. Two large wooden slides were built at the foot of the escarpment by The Victoria Toboggan and Snowshoe Club and The Hamilton Toboggan and Snowshoe Club. #HamOnt

Reminder that I'm welcoming Duranders to join me at CityLAB (the former Football Hall of Fame) for a Community Meeting on February 12 at 7pm. We'll have refreshments and I'll be sharing upcoming City work in the Durand neighbourhood and taking time to catch up in person. Hope to see you! #HamOnt

It’s a watermain break. Information about it should be on the City’s website, though I don’t have the link handy at the moment.

I've heard from some North Enders with questions about the reopening of the Bennetto Recreation Centre after its recent use as a temporary emergency warming centre during temperatures up to -30 degrees Celsius (with the windchill). Here's an update based on information from City staff. #HamOnt

For those who’ve been watching the Council discussion, people do indeed cycle in the winter. Here’s my short chilly commute to work today. I even saw Councillor Cassar’s bike when I got here! Enjoy it out there if you can. It’s a beauty. #HamOnt

Downtowners have been reaching out about power outages since the weekend. As of now, about 44 customers are still without power and it should be restored within the next few hours. I also have some answers about what happened and what has been done to remedy the situation. #HamOnt

As you may remember, I tabled a motion at the Public Works Committee that Council approved to replace the playground at Central Elementary. The City has launched a survey to get your feedback about the equipment. Fill it out at engage.hamilton.ca/pyw-central-... until February 9. #HamOnt

Ward 2 Newsletter - Issue 34 January 27, 2026

The Ward 2 newsletter is out with my thoughts on why this year's budget process is a missed opportunity, updates on the area around Jackson Street West and MacNab Street South, and a summary from last week's Council meeting on secondary plan fees and the collapse of the Gore Park buildings. #HamOnt

At City Hall this morning meeting with tenants and stopped by Gore Park Community Outreach to check in on folks. It’s cold out there and we need to do more to support those who are forced to be outside in this weather. #HamOnt

I agree. I think it’s been sorted. We’re hearing a presentation right now, no deliberations have begun as yet so it should be alright. Thanks for watching.

This chilly week, we're looking back at the Blizzard of 1898. December 4 started off mild, looking like rain, "The railway whistles had a mournful tone, too, but they always do before a rainstorm". By evening, however, snow began to fall and stick, "for it was of the clinging variety". #HamOnt

Ward 2 Newsletter - Issue 33 January 16, 2025

The first Ward 2 Newsletter of the year is out. In it I write about what Ward 2 residents can expect from me in this election year, the impacts of the Province's decision to take over recycling, and a high level breakdown of how projects get completed in the City. #HamOnt

We'll be running our Ward 2 Community Grants program differently in 2026. Rather than accepting applications at the start of each quarter, we’ll be accepting one large round of applications between January 12 and March 6. Apply and get more information at ward2hamilton.ca/grants. #HamOnt

Thanks to St. Matthew's House for inviting me to join them yesterday at the Cathedral CafΓ© to share how the $5,000 Ward 2 Community Grant helped with their kitchen renovation. A new stove, dishwasher, sinks, and flooring make it easier to prepare and serve meals to those in need. It matters. #HamOnt

I’m continuing to prioritize safer streets in Ward 2, as I did with this motion seconded by Councillor Cassar today at Public Works. Introducing raised intersections and crosswalks will help to mitigate dangerous driving, which continues to be an issue downtown. It matters. #HamOnt
