Mushrooms of the Psilocybe genus is rich in #psilocybin, a well-known psychedelic compound.

Once ingested, psilocybin is metabolised to psilocin, which activates serotonin receptors in the brain (5-HT2A). But the effects vary greatly depending on the person and the context!

Canagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, reduces blood glucose by inhibiting glucose reabsorption from kidney tubules.

Now it’s shown to improve oxygen delivery to kidneys and improve kidney health in #diabetic patients.

Key components in a healthy cell involved in calcium, sodium and potassium transport. Sodium calcium exchanger (NCX) transports 2 calcium ions out if the cell for 3 sodium ions into the cell. The sodium pump transports 3 sodium ions into the cell and 2 potassium ions into the cell. Intracellular calcium is pumped into the endoplasmic reticulum by SERCA.

How ouabain affects ion transport in the cell. Ouabain inhibits the sodium pump. Sodium ions build up inside the cell, which inhibits the sodium calcium exchanger, NCX. SERCA pumps excess calcium into the endoplasmic reticulum, ultimately increasing calcium stores

Ouabain. One of my favourite drugs because of it’s pronunciation (wa-bayne). Also because it’s a double edged sword that can either kill someone or treat their heart failure. Your choice.
