For example, one friend of mine does not post anything political on his social media, but he is always the first in our friend group to attend a protest, which is where he feels most empowered and like he can make a difference.

Everyone is different. And imo, social media is further dividing us.

One thing I’ve learned the last 5-6 years is that everyone has their own way of doing things. Rather than post on social media to the masses, some may choose to directly call a friend they know is affected, so it’s important not to shame people who don’t post every single thing you do.
