It's always nice when good news makes the headlines and the story of the missing three year old in Quebec has had, in the words of the SQ spokesperson "the best possible outcome". It is our top story on CBC News Network at 7 and 8 eastern and we expect more details from police.

Have you listened to our show before? When have we fallen short on a serious topic?

There have been a few times when Checkup has been hammered on social media for a program we haven't done yet. I'm in a show meeting right now. The gap between what's being posted and what we're actually planning is enormous. Our regular listeners should expect the same care we use for every show.

The Prime Minister, among others, has said we should take these threats seriously. Why shouldn't we hear how people are reacting to this?

Given the choice between discussing a threat and not discussing, we choose the former. That's what our show is about.

It's absolutely not about ratings. It's about our mission on Checkup: national conversations about important relevant topics. And this week, a cross border conversation.

We take on sensitive topics all the time. I don't think callers dignify or normalize the notion of a 51st state. I assume they'll reflect what I'm seeing on social media. Our program is based on the premise that we should discuss topics, not ignore them.

Why in the world would you write that first line? What is that possibly based on and how does it help this conversation?

Lots of thoughtful social media criticism of our question for Sunday's Checkup and we listened. The new question: what do you think of Trump's comments about Canada becoming the 51st state? The show's being simulcast on more than 100 NPR stations. It's a chance to make your voice heard.

I see some people are upset with our topic Checkup Sunday. With President Trump repeating his "51st state" comments, we feel it is important to talk about. Even better, for Americans to hear our voices via the NPR stations that will be simulcasting.
