Rethinking Grades How many of you have PowerSchool downloaded on your phone with the notifications turned on? Correct me if I am wrong, but I think one of the most anxiety-inducing moments is receiving that blue “P” no...

My 11th-grade daughter wrote this speech for her dual enrollment public speaking class. It's her thoughts about the grading system. Perhaps we should listen to our students more. www.linkedin.com/pulse/rethin...

If you’re implementing PBL (or any variation of it) and spending significantly more time than you would in a traditional classroom implementation, you’re allowing the project to overtake the curriculum.

Be mindful of what I’ve long referenced as a “research paper in disguise” when implementing any __ -based learning opportunity. (proj, prob, challenge, etc.) Be mindful that websites, podcasts, and presentations of learning are often low-level Bloom’s regurgitation, & take inquiry out of the process

Ultimately, these are still lower-level Bloom’s activities. Instead, we should design authentic project-learning experiences that move our Ss from knowledge, understanding, & application into creating solutions to challenges that have no one right answer. Then, and only then, do we get past “boring”

If your district is spending big bucks on AI tools for the upcoming school year, ask yourself this critical question:

Into what level of SAMR does the use of AI tool fall?

If you’re paying thousands of dollars for substitution or augmentation-level tools, is the juice worth the squeeze?

Tell that to Routledge. They uploaded all their authors’ works without an offer to opt out.

I did a few years ago, but I’m always open to another conversation.

Yes! I can’t express how many people think that because it’s education, you should consult for free.

I’ve been asking that question, too. I miss the heyday of Twitter edchats.

The fundamental problem with this iterative PBL approach is there is no explicit opportunity for formative assessment to occur with scaffolding for learners. My 5 Stages of Project assessment (see my books) help teachers create personalized learning pathways through #APLEs. @proj-arc.bsky.social

Everyone likes to receive good feedback, right? I’m no exception to that rule. However, this feedback from a principal might be my favorite yet… “You killed it today. I mean, you murdered it. You really know your $h1t!

On this day, in 2011, I wrote, “I’m amazed at the opportunities presented by posting on social media.”

With the decline of Twitter over the last few years, I’m looking forward BlueSky presenting those opportunities again.

I would suggest changing the first question to: How can we help teachers uncover ways to become more student-centric and agentic in their learning approaches?

To me, "guiding" sounds much more directive and less discovery. To gain buy-in, teachers have to be a part of the experience.

Where are my educator folks on this platform? I miss the heyday of #edchat and connections forged in the early years of Twitter. I spend most of my time on LinkedIn now and am wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze here.
