I grew up in the Baltimore area so there was no shortage of Catholic schools. When the Dominican sisters (Nashville) took over my high school in the 60s they parted ways with the archdiocese and I think that was key. Many other schools have closed in the last decade and they keep growing.

I had a really great experience w Dominican sisters. Now that I have kids and I have looked at Catholic schools around the country, I realize my experience was probably not very common.

And one of the problems is Barron is still seen as mainstream by offline normie Catholics. At church we got a “helpful“ list of podcasts to enrich our faith and his was number 2 (after Fr. MIke, of course).

I lived in aus and now here- I do think they taste slightly different and we had a huge mac nut tree in Australia! Someone from big island told me it was because of the volcanic ash. I’m not smart enough to know if that’s true but it sounds reasonable.

I honestly dropped out of my church’s Bible study because of this mentality. ”Oh today we are just like the Israelites constantly being persecuted for our faith.” Are we? The only people I’ve met who are mad about my Catholic faith are other Christians who think I’m going to hell.

Do any shelters nearby have field trip or couch crasher programs? That’s how we found a dog that fit our family. I know our local shelters (Oahu) always want temporary fosters during the holidays especially. we failed our couch crasher program last week and officially adopted her :)

What part of the US do you live in? I long to never drive again!!

Finally caved and adopted a dog. She had 7 puppies a few months ago and she’s a tired lady (she’s now spayed).

I put them in cottage cheese- the ultimate lady in her 40s cliche protein snack combo. It is pretty good and also helps with fiber.

I’m glad you found a tradition. When we lived in Australia we loved to host our Aussie friends for thanksgiving dinner. We even had a 4th of July party with them in the middle of winter :)
