1 in 4 school-leavers missing out on protection offered by HPV vaccine against several cancers
Dr Sharif Ismail
Consultant Epidemiologist
at UKHSA, said:
While HPV uptake has remained stable, vaccination rates are still well below pre-pandemic levels and around 1 in 4 young people are still leaving school unprotected against several cancers.
Driving up vaccine uptake will require sustained, targeted action across the NHS and wider health partners with support in schools, to improve awareness of the life-saving importance of HPV vaccination and ensure itβs easy to get, especially if you have missed out. Young people remain eligible to catch up at their GP surgery until their 25th birthday.
ππ° The latest data from our HPV vaccination programme shows 1 in 4 schoolβleavers are unvaccinated against HPV. This leaves young women at risk of cervical cancer and both sexes vulnerable to other HPVβrelated cancers.

Grateful for the opportunity to be part of this research. CHC is something many people don't know about, despite the care it can provide in incredibly difficult circumstances. Even for those who do try to access it, the inequities are stark.

Ending the use of hotels to house people seeking asylum - Refugee Council
New analysis outlinines how the UK can responsibly end the use of asylum hotels within a year through a secure, practical solution.
Our new analysis sets out how the UK Government could put in place a temporary one-off scheme. This would give permission to stay for a limited periodβsubject to rigorous security checksβto people from countries almost certain to be recognised as refugees.

Refugees living in these hotels often report feeling like βtargets.β Muhammad, from Afghanistan - who spent six months in a hotel - says: βPeople film residents outside the hotel without permission, using it in a negative way. It makes them feel hopeless about the system.β

Our Chief Exec, @enversol.bsky.social says: "As long as hotels remain open, they will continue to be flashpoints for far-right activity, fuelling tensions and driving communities apart. It is a failure of government to keep people in a system that leaves them in limbo for months."

Since 2011, working-age women have fared worse than men on many diseases.
Poor health also contributes to economic inactivity and addressing this is a government priority. But greater focus is needed on women who spend more of their working years living in ill health.

We suggest policy recommendations to improve supervision of ARRS staff for safety and quality assurance, including accountability for minimum induction standards and changing ARRS funding rules to allow payment of senior clinicians to supervise clinicians working in additional roles.
