Grateful to the folks at The Asbury Park Press for the thoughtful conversation.
Appreciate the chance to look back on what OSCβs talented staff and I accomplished during my time as Comptroller.

Protecting taxpayer dollars. Promoting integrity.

Reviewed 1,096 proposed public contracts
β
Followed up on audits that led to millions in recovered funds

In 2025, OSC exposed:

Accountability matters. Transparency matters.

I know Canva well, too.
Today at work, I needed Microsoft Paint.

π In August, OSC found 109 NJ school bus companies failed to submit driver safety documentation before the start of the school year Sept. 7, 2023.
Todayβs follow-up shows 16 companies in 8 counties missed the deadline again.
The list of companies is here: https://bit.ly/4oXWch2
Now is the time for the New Jersey Legislature to take action on nursing homes.
Bill S1948 would inject some much-needed transparency into the relationships between exploitative owners of nursing homes and their related companies.
Too many of NJβs Medicaid funded nursing homes are failing residents and wasting taxpayer dollars.
Our residents deserve to live in safe environments.
Itβs time for the state to treat this as the urgent crisis it is.

NEW: An investigation by OSC finds that owners and associates of two Hammonton and Deptford nursing homes diverted tens of millions in Medicaid funds for personal gain. Residents were left to suffer.
OSC said the owners and associates should repay $124 million, plus penalties.
Another example of a major OSC investigation that simply couldn't have happened if Senator Scutari's bill S4924 were law.
OSC's Street Cop Training investigation: 1/5
nj.gov/comptroller/...
I am spending as much time as possible these days working to defeat Senator Scutari's bill that would undermine the Office of the State Comptroller.
I am outraged at what I heard a week ago.
Sens. Beach and Burzichelli baselessly attacked OSC even after their own witnesses praised our work.
This is the sick leave abuse report that @newjerseypolitics.bsky.social referenced on News12 NJ.
Senate Bill S4924 would prevent OSC investigations like this.
It's a bad bill for NJ.

Sincere question: What will it take for public schools and local governments to recognize insurance brokers' conflicts of interest?
For the Legislature to take steps to stop the hemorrhaging of public funds wasted because of conflicts of interest?

πΉ This is a bill that no New Jersey residents asked for, except the people who are upset by the powerful being held accountable.
πΉWhen you canβt give a bill an honest, open dialogue, it suggests you have something to cover up.

When watchdogs lose subpoena power, taxpayers lose transparency and accountability.
A bill to strip OSC's investigatory powers isnβt βstreamliningββitβs an attack on oversight in a state with a long history of political waste and backroom deals.
