We in BAYAN-Southern Mindanao, along with other concerned Dabawenyos, will continue to denounce corruption, call for accountability, and to struggle for genuine democracy whatever it takes.

Furthermore, it is the right of every person to express utter dismay on the government's failures to address systemic problems and to condemn government officials, such as Marcos Jr. and the Dutertes, engaged in anomalous practices. We are unfazed by the DCPO's intimidation tactics.

May we also remind the DCPO that the individuals who protested last 8 September acted within their constitutionally guaranteed rights to peaceably assemble and to seek redress of grievances.

DCPO's pronouncements and possible actions versus activists are reminiscent of Marcos Sr's brutal dictatorship and gross rights violations.

—it is as if the people's exercise of their civil and political rights should be dependent on bureaucratic processes and the approval of state authorities.

It is quite ironic for the DCPO to say that they respect the people's right to express, and, in the same breadth, limit Dabawenyos' freedom of assembly to a single park—

..civic space in Davao and continuing political repression in Mindanao amidst worsening socioeconomic conditions and rampant government corruption that unfolded in the past several weeks.
