In Ireland we probably averted about 500 newborn RSV hospitalizations once nirsevimab was introduced last year (~75% risk reduction). Uptake was > 80%, and that's what's threatened by these cynical safety concerns from the antivaxxers in the US government.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.

Sadly, readings criticizing Open Science were more frequent than readings dealing with HARKing, registered reports, measurement issues, fraud, incorrect reporting of results, detecting “bad science” and open access.

My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

right...it's not all necessarily planned out beforehand, but there's massive animus against trans ppl and a huge infrastructure for destroying trans ppl, knowledge of which is widely available in right wing christofascist circles. 1

Academics are so vulnerable to getting sucked into the details without seeing the bigger picture. It's really hard for them to see some arguments as just bad faith and not worth engaging in. Instead they jump in to evaluate the essay, not realizing they're just legitimizing the bad faith attack.

They're definitely not on our side.

It's almost a familiar storyline by now.
1. An "egregious" violation of a students' rights by a teacher.
2. It turns out to be run of the mill bad work by the student.
3. It turns out to have been provoked or amplified by a huge network of right wingers.
4. Targeting trans people

It's becoming increasingly clear that many of these events are orchestrated (either a-priori or post-hoc) to target trans people and generate widespread outrage.

Totally agree on "why" being hard for people. We see lots of self-reports of "I did this because I was sad" really just correlates with experiencing lots of sadness instead of a real antecedent to a momentary behavior.

So actually this paragraph is an outstanding example of just how to think through this well!
