Excellent science communication about why this tragedy occurred. Another solution is to protect people by limiting establishment and activities in these vulnerable zones.

Medical Research Funding β€” Unbreaking How the administration is breaking the government, and what that means for all of us.

I urge everyone to read Unbreaking’s new page on everything the govt is doing to destroy & diminish medical research funding.

It’s the best thing I’ve read on this topic: @lizneeley.bsky.social & co have such done an incredible job.

Journal editors struggling to find reviewers β€” there are some bloody good reasonsΒ why I used to think it was merely a post-COVID19 hiccough, but the extensive delays in receiving reviews for submitted manuscripts that I am seeing near constantly now are the symptoms of a much larger problem. That problem is, in a nutshell, how awfully journals are treating both authors and reviewers these days. I regularly hear stories from editors handling my papers, as well as accounts from colleagues, about the ridiculous number of review requests they send with no response.

Powerful graphic. In a single day on April 25, a DOGE-fueled NSF canceled 340,226 future days of research.

Or 932 years.

[And that’s just one of three rounds of terminations so far.]

The Trump Administration Has Canceled Millions in NSF Grants Projects related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and misinformation and disinformation were cut β€œto protect the interests of the government,” the agency said.

β€œWe’re seeing the manipulation of the system, where now politicians are deciding where the money should go or what science is and is not, rather than the scientists themselves.” @mzahneis.bsky.social reports on the millions in canceled NSF grants: www.chronicle.com/article/the-...

Many data sets held by NOAA are being "retired" in may, including datasets relevant to ocean sciences and climate. If you have need for these data, or are an archivist, it would be good to download this now. PLEASE SHARE WIDELY. www.nesdis.noaa.gov/about/docume...

Some people LOVE to tell me that scientists have lost public trust because we were wrong about something, we communicated badly, we swore or cried or acted fallibly human, or whatever.

That’s bullshit. Scientists lost public trust because disinformation campaigns like this stole it & eradicated it.
