09.03.2026 19:59 β π 43 π 5 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm Keir for you: The PM is visiting a community center in London to discuss the impact. Expect a pooled interview with broadcasters mid-morning. Thereβs one quote on rising bills in his words trailed overnight that warrants chasing up: βI will always be guided by what is best for the British public. And no matter the headwinds, supporting working people and their families with the cost of living is always top of my mind.β
I mean, this just isn't true, is it? If Starmer was focused on the cost of living crisis he wouldn't insist on no customs union and no single market? Nor would he embrace the negative economic consequences of his anti-migrant policy?
Like everything else about Starmer, this is empty rhetoric.
I don't know if I believe that. The neuro-science points to a distinct negative impact on retention, and the amount of "work" being done in the brain, when working with LLMs a lot.
Pure anecdote, but my colleagues report becoming "dumber" after using claude code for a long time,
I think it is definitely sort of a naive and idealist position. Even if some workers might want to stay disciplined, the forces of capital are reshaping the culture into one that expects speed over accuracy through selective hiring and firings, & Ai-usage based promotion strats; Ref Accenture
09.03.2026 01:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0This also leading to there being no new generation of skilled devs that can grow into seniors, because they've never had to problem solve for real, and therefore can't solve the 20% of engineering problems that needs the real 80% of the skill, time, and creativity.
08.03.2026 23:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm afraid that the hard way we learn this, is by a generation of software devs willingly de-skilling themselves, essentially losing the ability to read and analyze code, because they rarely have to contend with writing, or thinking about it, themselves, from scratch.

I think it's not going to really up to us how this will be used, as we don't control the money, and therefore aren't the primary stakeholders.
We, as workers, are willingly giving up the one powerful thing we had, which was the ability to gate-keep the means of production needed to create tech.
Thanks! I'm going to listen to it.

I'm experiencing this right now at work, the entire office entering a kind of frenzy where everything can supposedly be done with Ai, coding is solved, and we just have to fold.
Temperance isn't the language of an industry that need to spawn a trillion dollars in LLM profits in the next few years.
I mostly agree
Both are possible, but one is systemically compatible with impulses and logics inherent to our infinite growth economics, & the other is inherently incompatible with those logics, in the mind of capital, if the first one has a hypothetical non-zero chance of being benefitial

People on the ground describe it as armageddon. History will not forgive Reza Pahlavi, Masih Alinejad, Nazanin Boniadi, and all other "leaders" who tricked Iranians into thinking this war would set them free.
Oh my god: this is *daytime* in Tehran.

08.03.2026 15:48 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0I've seen wide surprise a few times at double taps. Israel has been doing this a lot in Gaza, we did it a lot in Afghanistan, it is a war crime intended to kill wounded, their family, and first responders. It should not be surprising because Hegseth and DT loudly committed to war crimes as a tactic.

Al Jazeera cracked this "enigma":
This school had many daughters of military officers and soldiers. The idea was to attract them to the school, strike it to draw in rescuers and relatives, and then strike it again to kill them.
Not only did the US, per its own βintelligence,β bomb this girls primary school, THEY BOMBED IT TWICE.

Yeah, uh, that's a major argument against Ai, and for it being a value-negative tool inside of capitalism.
Software, both open & closed source, have gotten worse since the advent of Vibe coding. Microsofts increasing number of critical bugs in windows, is a good example.
It's a tech-debt machine.
On the one hand, mental health erosion, water poverty, oligarchy empowerment, deepfake pornography, job losses, surveillance capitalism, hatemongering of minorities.
But on the other hand wheeee here's an animated anthropomorphic Pumpkin Spice Latte making pizza!
I've never felt so torn π
iβm tired of every paper (even critical ones) on societal impact of AI starting by both-siding the βbenefitsβ and risks/harms of AI
in academia, i would like us to arrive at a collective reckoning that we donβt need to play both sides. it's totally legit to clearly state just the harms. period
How "uninformed" can we be while also being aware of the harms that LLMs/genAI do beyond just being error-prone?
Maybe consider that what we object to isn't "dur hur sometimes ai fucks up a company's code"
