I think it is definitely sort of a naive and idealist position. Even if some workers might want to stay disciplined, the forces of capital are reshaping the culture into one that expects speed over accuracy through selective hiring and firings, & Ai-usage based promotion strats; Ref Accenture

This also leading to there being no new generation of skilled devs that can grow into seniors, because they've never had to problem solve for real, and therefore can't solve the 20% of engineering problems that needs the real 80% of the skill, time, and creativity.

I'm afraid that the hard way we learn this, is by a generation of software devs willingly de-skilling themselves, essentially losing the ability to read and analyze code, because they rarely have to contend with writing, or thinking about it, themselves, from scratch.

I think it's not going to really up to us how this will be used, as we don't control the money, and therefore aren't the primary stakeholders.

We, as workers, are willingly giving up the one powerful thing we had, which was the ability to gate-keep the means of production needed to create tech.

Both are possible, but one is systemically compatible with impulses and logics inherent to our infinite growth economics, & the other is inherently incompatible with those logics, in the mind of capital, if the first one has a hypothetical non-zero chance of being benefitial

Yeah, uh, that's a major argument against Ai, and for it being a value-negative tool inside of capitalism.

Software, both open & closed source, have gotten worse since the advent of Vibe coding. Microsofts increasing number of critical bugs in windows, is a good example.

It's a tech-debt machine.

On the one hand, mental health erosion, water poverty, oligarchy empowerment, deepfake pornography, job losses, surveillance capitalism, hatemongering of minorities.

i’m tired of every paper (even critical ones) on societal impact of AI starting by both-siding the “benefits” and risks/harms of AI

in academia, i would like us to arrive at a collective reckoning that we don’t need to play both sides. it's totally legit to clearly state just the harms. period

How "uninformed" can we be while also being aware of the harms that LLMs/genAI do beyond just being error-prone?

Maybe consider that what we object to isn't "dur hur sometimes ai fucks up a company's code"
