We have two fantastically well-funded #PhD studentships available through the @evomg-dn.bsky.social #EU doctoral network (led by brilliant @mirimiam.bsky.social, @crg.eu). These enable students to move to the UK and come and work with us @icr.ac.uk to exploit #cancer #evolution for patient benefit.

Las week, the @prbb.org hosted the Iberian EvoMG PI Meeting 2025. An event organized by the @evomg-bcn.bsky.social & @biomics-twinning.bsky.social to bring together all researchers working on the different areas of evolutionary medical genomics.

And last but not least, closing this very intense meeting, Jesús Perez-Losada, from iBMCC, told us about their work on molecular and genetic determinants of cancer susceptibility, evolution, and treatment response.

Then, Ferran Nadeu ( @ferrannadeu.bsky.social ), from IDIBAPS ( @idibaps.bsky.social ), told us about his work on origin and immuno-genomic forces driving multiple and independent CLL expansions.

Next, Donate Weghorn ( @weghornlab.bsky.social ), from the EvoMG Program and @crg.eu, talked about her work on mutational processes and selection in cancer.

David Posada, CINBIO, U Vigo

And the last session of the meeting was Session 5: Cancer.

The first speaker was David Posada ( @davidposada.bsky.social ), from the Universidade de Vigo and @cinbio.bsky.social, who showed us how somatic phylogenetics can provide fundamental insights into the evolutionary dynamics of cancer.

In between Sessions 4 (aging) and 5 (cancer), we had the perfect bridge between the two topics, with the second keynote talk, by Iñigo Martincorena (@imartincorena.bsky.social), who told us about their work on somatic evolution, and its implications for aging and cancer.

And also from @cabd-upo-csic.bsky.social , Juan Tena, presented his lab's work on aging using killifish and a collaborative project to understand age-related retina degeneration.

Next, Juan Ramón Martinez Morales ( @jrmarmor.bsky.social ), from @cabd-upo-csic.bsky.social , presented their work on eye malformations and aging, and the underlying gene regulatory networks, using fish models.

Continuing on pancreas and #diabetes, Jose Bessa from i3S ( @i3suporto.bsky.social ) presented his work on characterizing regualtory elements in zebrafish and mammals with relevance to this disease.
