Busy day of work around childcare, w/ a visit to Frogston PS in south Edinburgh to chat with the SLT about possible ancient offerings for pupils!

Rounded off with a Curriculum Imorovement Cycle meeting hosted by @EducationScot, where I'm consulting as a 'Critical Friend' of Classical Language.

Two boxed boardgames on a wooden surface: Elysium and Tigris & Euphrates.

Papers done and packing almost complete for #CA2025. Might be packing a couple ancient-themed games in case any delegates find themselves at a loose end on Friday night!

Counts as work, right?! ๐Ÿคฃ

(And yes, I'm aware of the Greek script being butchered on the 'Elysium' box!)

Had a great time at the @royalarmouries.bsky.social celebrating the @classicsforall.bsky.social 2025 Impact Awards. Hearing stories of inspirational teachers all over the UK is so heartwarming!

Huge congratulations to Emma Noble from St Ambrose High, for winning the Scottish regional network award!

Took possession today of some old ledgers relating to the @cascotland.bsky.social. For being books of lists & payments, they're really beautiful (some v. elegant penmanship!) It has also been interesting seeing the health of national membership of the CAS over 100 yrs ago.

I saw this at the recent UK Games Expo, but it was too busy to get close to, at the time! So, I satisfied my ancient itch by picking up copies of Carpe Diem and Pandemic: Fall of Rome! ๐Ÿคฃ

Exciting times!

I've received many enquiries from interested students around the world, which is brilliant. In order for this programme to run, however, our classes must be at a sufficient level to pay our expert tutors fairly. I hope anyone who is still thinking about enrolling will join us!

Oh, I had this! I totally forgot about its existence, though. It was fun for a while, but the novelty was limited. It was definitely Crazy Taxi feeling, mixed with old school Road Rash!

Sounds awesome! I might have an undergrad dissertation student wanting to do stuff about damnatio, so may refer them to you, if that's alright?

If this current shower are indicative of the 'best' on their currently eye-watering salaries, then I'm forced to the conclusion that the field can't be all that impressive anyway!

So say we all. While there are elements of the finale that are admittedly clunky, the conclusion to the Roslin-Adama arc ends me, every time!

Really happy to see AV2025 open!

CAS is a small operation, and it's a lot of admin on top of my other jobs: there's always a bit of stress getting the moving parts together.

This is always offset, though, by getting to work with amazing tutors, and seeing students enjoy our courses.

I'm pleased to have played a role in bringing together a scheme which brings together the facilities of independent & higher education institutions, in the service of state school pupils nationwide.

In light of dwindling numbers of Latinists in Scotland, in particular, this is a valuable scheme.

Sign the Petition Save Cardiff University Ancient History Degree

Please sign and share widely! After the devastating news about the planned cuts at Cardiff, the students have got the ball rolling to save their Ancient History programme. It is a very fine department: student numbers are strong, the staff team is fantastic. There is no rationale. chng.it/G5SMYxNbMQ
