Thanks Joe. Posting this has sort of broken a spell for me. It’s made me realise I’ve had to make the right decision to keep money coming in, and it’s making drawing fun again. Total pressure release valve. I’ve written the outlines for five new comic stories literally after posting about it.

I wrote about what’s been going on a little while ago on here, but there’s too much text to share for this post.

It’s understandable. It’s all I drank at my friends once, and my dad had to stay up and make sure I didn’t fall into the pond and drown while I was rolling around in the garden trying not to be sick.

Not much to report. Just getting some ink drawing done.

Back in 2015/ 2016 I tried to pitch a larger, more cohesive “Teagle Comics” and an origin that tied all the characters together.

I’d love to continue it one day when I get more time.

Thanks Murray, I guess it was just fearless intuition back then. I really wish I could return to that.
Feeling a bit creatively/ spiritually crushed at the moment, but I’d love to return to being prolific and making more raw work.

Yeh, I’d say my infamy and experience sort of makes me feel like I’m a failure when it’s just not working at the moment.

I’m seeing it as a sabbatical. I think I’ve lost my authorial voice by being too agreeable in advertising/ branded work.

Tell me about it. When I was working on a big book project I just played pc engine shmups in my lunch break and ended up getting really good at them.

I keep falling asleep trying to play unicorn overlord. Like all vanillaware games, it’s part visual novel, but there’s a lengthy opening tutorial

I’m really struggling to find any time for gaming, but I feel like retro stuff actually wastes your time way less than all the modern behemoths.

Yeh, the variety of your characters and the depth of your world and the dialogue, I can’t imagine being able to make that all caged up!

No, but not far off! I do a little of everything. I’m front of house and shop assistant, and I tend to bonsai.

It’s a small, intimate garden that’s got a lot of accessibility, so it’s nice ushering people in who maybe can’t do longer walks.

Yeh I was going to get a watch with a step tracker but the watches I want have smart phone integration, so I’m just getting a classic Casio.

Stops any temptation of checking notifications when checking the time. Also, the batteries on objects that JUST do their jobs lasts sooo much longer!

On top of that, I love my job. I work at a garden that I would take my daughter to a lot when she was a toddler.
I really love being able to great people who are also looking for a bit of inner peace.

It’s nice just making thing and experimenting instead of seeing some modicum of online success with an image and then immediately thinking “I can monetise this!!!”

I also find it hard to keep up with the content churn. Everything has accelerated since I was first online.

I worked on some big projects in the last few years but I think I just massively burnt out.
I’ve been dealing with the passing of my gran and grandad who I helped care for, for the last few years.
My online store ground to a halt. It’s hard out there. But I’m much happier reflecting on everything

I’ve been full time freelancing as an illustrator for 15 years. In July I took on a part time job.
It’s been really helping me to find better balance and routine in my life, and I’m slowly learning to love making personal work again. It’s nice to feel a lot more centred.
