Ahh, yeah that makes sense. I don't think I've ever taught a coordinated session and given free rein. Most I could do was assign my own homework, and write the quizzes and exams. I left academia for various reasons, this being one of them.

Yea, as an adjunct it was worse because I could sympathize with my students, but had no control of the assigned texts!

This is the way it was when I taught over a decade ago -- a student may have gotten a deal on a used copy of a textbook, but new textbooks came with a "free" voucher for webassign. You'd end up spending nearly the same amount as a new copy when you add in the webassign fee for a semester.
