I cannot remember the exact name but there’s a low budget Irish film where the main character is being chased through Rathmines by some gangsters, so he ducks into Mother Reillys, legs it through the pub, then emerges out the back of The Lombard on Pearse Street.

(Grabbers is like an Irish version of Tremors, set on a remote Donegal Island, with the twist that aliens/eldritch horrors are deathly allergic to alcohol.

So, to survive, ours heroes must do battle, by ensuring they are moderately pissed at all time.

I cannot remember a single frame of Rise of the Skywalker, Avatar or half a dozen other films of the same era and budget

But there are shots and moments from set pieces in Rogue One that I adore.

Ok, no wrong opinions but even if you don’t like Rogue One you have to acknowledge it’s a finely crafted piece of filmmaking. You might not like it, it might not be to your tastes but it’s *very* hard to claim it is a bad film.

Nope. It’s not perfect. But acts 1 & 2 play out like a WW2 caper movie (where Eagles Dare, The Guns of Navarrone) morally ambiguous sabotage and intelligence operations carried out ruthlessly by unsung heroes during fascist resistance, meets a third act that is pure the battle of midway.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

I had an interview for it, but was beaten out by a good friend.

It’s 14 years later and despite the fact I changed careers over 5 years ago I am still nursing a healthy grudge over it.

Post image Family & Life raised close to €2m in donations in the two years to 2016, while the Pro Life Campaign generated donations of almost €900,000 between 2014 and 2015, according to company accounts.

Accounts for a third company, The Life Institute - affiliated with the Save the 8th campaign - was funded by a long-term, interest-free loan of €231,000 from an un-named donor, also in 2016.

Given we are now in 2018, the money captured in these company accounts may have long been spent. The records nevertheless provide a snapshot of the financial health of the anti-repeal movement.

The Life Institute has also been seeking donations online to campaign against repeal. Niamh Ui Bhriain said it is registered with Sipo "and all funds raised for the referendum are deposited in a separate bank account and will be fully accounted for to Sipo."

"We only raise referendum funds according to Sipo rules," the statement said.

Save the 8th, which runs the actual campaign, is owned by Ide Nic Mhathuna. A spokesperson said the Save the 8th hopes to raise around €300,000 for the campaign against repeal.

Operating from the same office on Gardiner Street is Youth Defence, prominent in past campaigns because of its controversial tactics, it is less so now, although its website describes it as the largest pro- life organisation in the country. It is also seeking online donations ranging from €50 up to €700 to sponsor a "highly visible pro-life billboard" .

The Pro-Life Campaign, which is behind the Love Both social media campaign, is a separate entity. It describes itself as a "non-denominational human rights" organisation.

V I E Company, which owns it, shows that it raised €839,486 in 2013, €347,683 in 2014 and €550,138 in 2015. Its accounts for 2016 do not disclose any donations, only assets of €57,841.

Its spokespeople include Cora Sherlock and Professor William Binchy. Its Love Both project is headed by Katie Ascough, the UCD student who was impeached as president of the Students Union because she followed "legal advice" in removing abortion information from a student newspaper.

Lolek, the company behind the Iona Institute - which last month launched its billboard campaign against the referendum - received donations of €273,842 in 2016, according to its accounts, and was left with a surplus of €54,657. Its accounts stated all of its donations are raised in Ireland.

…I believe an Irish delegation was in Downing Street before Cameron had even starting packing, laying out our red lines, and stating them publicly. EU member states immediately offered their full throated support for Ireland’s position.

That, effectively ended al of the brexiteers’ ambitions.

If I recall ahead of the referendum in, neither LeaveEU or the UK govt had carried out any substantive research into what Brexit would actually involve if leave won ahead of the referendum in ‘16.

Whereas the Irish Civil Service took it with utmost seriousness, “wargaming” the 3 potential outcomes…

Andrew Jackson did. Thoroughly.

If you spent time reading the original, you'd want to give time to this counterpoint as well.

Meta signs deal with nuclear plant to power Al and datacenters for 20 years
Facebook and Instagram parent's deal follows other big tech companies signing agreements with power companies

Meta on Tuesday said it had struck an agreement to keep one nuclear reactor of a US utility company in Illinois operating for 20 years.
Meta's deal with Constellation Energy is the social networking company's first with a nuclear power plant. Other large tech companies are looking to secure electricity as US power demand rises significantly in part due to the needs of artificial intelligence and datacenters. Google has reached agreements to supply its datacenters with nuclear power via a half-dozen small reactors built by a California utility company. Microsoft's similar contract will restart the Three Mile Island nuclear plant
