but my personal belief is an ideal orv adaptation to any other form would have to be a passion project that would be willing to get esoteric and weird w its format, which a franchise focused on netting profits and expanding audiences simply cant achieve, even without any apparent foolish rewrites

not that i would really know what that would look like. but a super long serialized work simply cant be summarized coherently into a single straightforward three-act structure

esp since a movie adaptation by necessity needs to be a truncated ver of the story, i would even venture to say if they had created a completely original movie-specific plotline (adherent to orvs central themes) it mightve gone down better...? instead of this half-and-half they have going on

i do think though theres some intrinsic differences from property to property that determines the viability of adaptation. in orvs case i do feel like it being live action doomed it from the start, but also i am historically a very pretentious hater LOL idk if id be pleased regardless
but i wonder..

kind of been on my mind ofc because of orvla. which to be clear i never held any hopes for, but its kind of interesting to imagine a universe where the movie couldve been super different from what we know and still might have been promising, since that isnt really unusual for a book adaptation

this is just me ruminating - ive been reading wicked and it struck me how, while i knew it was different, i didnt expect how it would be entirely its own thing separate from what is popularly known through adaptation. and its made me wonder how much change becomes acceptable if an adaptation is good
