The thing about being from #pgcounty , is that I didn't have to look to TV or books to see what was possible. I went to Black doctors, was taught by Black teachers, went to church with Black lawyers and entrepreneurs. It was easy to dream here. It's why I'm raising my kid here, too.

I gotta emphasize the EJ's middle class fam. One big reason I wrote this book is to rep for the kind of suburban Black girl I just didn't see.

EJ, like me, is from majority Black Prince George's County, MD. A place getting its shine as the setting for #BeyondtheGates #blacksky #blackbooksky
