"working class" to politicians and pundits is an aesthetic, characterized by rolled up sleeves and rugged manual labor

to the rest of us, it just means we can't afford to tell our abusive bosses to kick rocks, because we have lofty aspirations to maybe get our teeth fixed some time this year

Uta Frith: why I no longer think autism is a spectrum The autism spectrum has widened to the point of collapse, affecting how teachers should support autistic pupils in the classroom, researcher Uta Frith tells Helen Amass

A pioneer of autism research is asking us to rethink the diagnosis, only viewing as autistic those diagnosed in early childhood (usually before 3 or 5) with severe intellectual/language impairments. Everyone else with the label may be suffering from something else...

Israeli attacks on UNIFIL peace keepers tonight. Irish service men were not directly hit, but they aided their counterparts from Ghana. This will further deteriorate Irish Israel relations.

Young offenders 'with DLD were more likely to have their behaviour interpreted as non-compliance.'
Which of course has serious implications for them!
This is why we need far greater awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

Almost feel sorry for the haters who are trying to spin Muslims voting for a woman in a party led by a gay Jewish man is evidence of Islamist sectarianism
In fact it's evidence of genuine tolerance, rejection of superficial identity politics and ability to prioritise tackling common concerns of cost of living, protecting public services and rejecting war mongering.
And the promotion of mutual respect and individual freedoms.
The coming together of people is terrifying for the ruling elites.

Totally this.

The rightwing hate β€œjournalists” are spinning Muslims voting for a woman in a party led by a gay Jewish man as Islamist sectarianism.

This whole thread is a very important insight as to why getting information from an LLM, even if you are dutiful and vigilant, corrodes your ability to ascertain what is true or not

** LLMs do not provide the info you need in order to evaluate truth. **

I agree with a lot of the criticism about how universities work these days and their marketing. But I find it funny that the loudest critics are often people who've never even been to one.

It's clear that unis have been yielding diminishing returns over the last 20 years, and that's probably going to get worse. But if you go around telling everyone that spending five years learning the bases of the knowledge in your field is a total waste of time, that really says something about you.

And people also kill babies sometimes! Why is it bad only when a machine does that?? A baby-murdering machine is so much more useful than a baby-murdering human!

Many are appropriately outraged by Altman’s comments here implying that raising a human child is akin to β€œtraining” an AI model.

This is part of a broader pattern where AI industry leaders use language that collapses the boundary between human and machine.

Generating units of cultural analysis with large language models: methods and validation for scalable cross-cultural research Abstract. We present a transparent, human-in-the-loop framework that uses large language models (LLMs) to transform ethnographic texts into binary, structu

Paper 🚨 We found that LLMs can match or exceed human coders on theoretical variables assessing the form and function of ritual fasting. Guided by theory and ethical human oversight, LLMs can generate units of cultural analysis for cross‑cultural theoretical tests. #BioAnth doi.org/10.1098/rsos...

Bannon, Epstein, Farage and Johnson and the Plot to 'Topple' Theresa May The far-right former Trump adviser told Jeffrey Epstein that "we are overthrowing May right now" as he worked with Boris Johnson to remove the then Conservative Prime Minister from office

The fact that Bannon coordinated the global far-right in 2010s with Cambridge-Analytica has been known for years. The role Epstein, Mandelson, Wolff and many other politicians, ceos, and journalists is what's we're learning from the Epstein files. Don't forget to write to your MP about it today.

Oh a last point is judging a study by sample size without evaluating sample quality (or sampling process) is basically saying "oh we just want more of that, regardless of what *that* is even if it is garbage." Power doesn't magically turn any input into evidence.
