They're trying to take designers out but the irony is that I've seen so many people trying to do the design work on canva and they end up getting a designer in anyway because *surprise* good graphic design is not easy to do.

Okay, heads up to everyone considering downloading the new free version of Affinity: they make you sign up for a Canva account, and they absolutely collect a lot of data, including for AI training. If you must use Affinity, turn off everything on the "Personal privacy" page.

Orgs, take note.

I've already seen one designer try to use the new app to open idml and adobe illustrator files and found it's worse than V2. Photoshop and illustrator alternatives are plentiful but good typesetting apps are not. Even indesign is now backsliding in quality.

Oh, well the announcement dropped on Instagram earlier today. Maybe they made a post to twitter? I didn't sign up for newsletters so I haven't recieved anything in my email.

They did it very hush hush. My ears perked up when people said the Affinity website went down at the beginning of October, and it took canva a minute to make a statement. Ceo made a video to launch their campaign for the new software and everyone hated the cryptic tone.

Oh and the cherry on this shit cake is that their original apps are no longer available for purchase or download... I'll be backing up my install files for those then.

So...instead of becoming a competitor to Adobe, Canva swallowed up Affinity and basically released their shit website as an app and attached the name Affinity to it and gave it an even more shit logo. You get more "features" (ai) if you sign up for canva's premium subscription.

I've straight up missed an interview due to being so tired. I also marked my calendar incorrectly and I had been so excited for that interview. Needless to say I was so fucking angry with myself.

I finally get a response to a job application and I botched the design test, which I only realised at the last possible moment. I hate job hunting.

I think it was national geographic magazine that published the photograph of an albatross chick that died of starvation, but its stomach was filled to the brim with plastic. That image still upsets me so much.

Yeah and we're supposed to have laws that prevent companies from doing this but they do it anyway. The clustering of all the calls towards the end of the month has only started in the last year or 2.

Yeah well, if your paycheck depends on other people's opinion on the way you report and say things then caution is warranted.

I first became aware a few years ago because environmental folks were concerned about what microplastics did to fish, especially the smaller species and fry that live on plankton. Since then the research has been getting louder and more studied and well yeah. Microplastics are everywhere.

But seriously, I can't take my phone off silent. From now until the 1st, I'll get like 10 calls a day that range from increasing my credit card's spending limit (which I have been telling my bank to stop doing for years) to upgrading my cellphone contract to changing isp to getting car insurance.

It's that time of the month where my phone will get flooded by phonecalls from people looking to get me to spend money. Fools. What money? *laughs in broke depressed millennial*

Microplastics are everywhere now. It's somewhat disturbing. I keep trying to find cotton clothing and finding a cotton blend is becoming difficult. Synthetic fabrics shed plastic like crazy.
