This past Friday, the department invited Professor Maria De Jesus and Dr. Denisse Vazquez to discuss Dr. Vazquez's dissertation on exploring remittance behaviors among Cuban immigrants.

Heather Flynn Former Senior Professional Staff, Senate Foreign Relations Committee closed out today's panel asking the question of what role we want the US to play in the world, while also speaking to the importance of the intersection of data and real world experience in governance.

In our panel, Katie LaRoque, Director of Advocacy, Freedom House, spoke on the implications of the recent changes to criteria for the State Department's human rights survey and the importance of human rights and to have hope in the face of uncertainty.

Dr Adela Levis, Former State Department Officer in the Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor and the Global Engagement Center, speaking on how democratic erosion has manifested within the State Department through funding cuts and restructuring.
