When DOGE Unleashed ChatGPT on the Humanities

A.I. was used to cancel most previously approved grants by the National Endowment for the Humanities as the agency embraced Trump’s agenda. The prompt was simple: “Does the following relate at all to D.E.I.?"

Awesome news! @ozidual.bsky.social edited the full run of the 1987 Famimaga (Nintendo's Family Computer Magazine) magazines that I scanned a while back which means they're so much easier to flip through and read now! Check them out: archive.org/details/@ozi...

It feels like another tipping point is being crossed rn… back-&-forth refinery strikes, Tehran in flames. Trump demanding unconditional surrender, de facto boasting of bombing Iranian desal. US & Israel are pushing Iran to fire everything it has at the region’s weakest links. Unimaginably dangerous.

Iran’s people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.

People criticizing Carney for hypocrisy but in the narrow technical sense of globalism, he’s perfectly consistent: transgressions of international economic law are more concerning than other violations. Protecting free trade and capital rights are the prime directives for guardians of world order.

Transpolitics is the beginning of the disappearance of politics in the dwindling of the last commodity: duration.

Democracy, consultation, the basis of politics, requires time. Duration is the proper of man; he is inscribed within it. For me, transpolitics is the beginning of the end. That's where my understanding of it radically differs from Jean Baudrillard's: for him it's positive. For me, it's totally negative. I fight against the disappearance of politics. I'm not saying that we should revert to ancient democracy, stop the clock and all that. I'm saying that there's work to be done, the epistemo-technical work we were talking about before, in order to reestablish politics, at a time when technology no longer portions out matter and geographical space (as was the case in ancient democratic society, but when technology portions out time and I would say: "The depletion of time."

Maybe people will wake up to the fact that the AI push has been about paying workers even less and taking away job security.

Less "prompt engineering" and more labor organizing.
