They are anti-facts. If an inconvenient fact is found, they bury it in a chorus of lies. They’re propagandists β€” and judging by their unhinged reaction to Lorenz’s straightforward article, there’s likely a worse story in terms of their payoffs

Thanks! My dad is not doing well (no one is with stage four cancer) but that’s not the reason for my family obligations break, it’s a more benign thing

"FBI informant" is a euphemistic way to say "collaborator with corrupt US government institutions to streamline organized crime"

The End Times of Academia "It was the non-existent future that I was working toward that was the problem."

Yes and no one mentioned that until Maddow fans tried to defend her for using it the exact way I had used it *on her own network* and then in my bestselling books. I did not get the phrase from a 1990s internet company, nor does my definition have an identical meaning to it.

Sure. But this woman should stop using "deja news", a phrase I coined to describe the phenomenon of old news being presented as a revelation -- years before she jacked it for her podcast. I don't mind folks using it; I do mind theft. From my books THEY KNEW (2022) and HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT (2020):

Another great book by one of my favorite authors AND people on this planet with us, @sarahkendzior.bsky.social.

Reminder: If you don’t follow her yet, PLS do! If you haven’t read her books, do it!

You will be SO glad you did!

I just adore her!

She’s a true light in this dark, shitty world!

I love this park and I'm in favor of this "vandalism". It's drawn out so that you put the letters of the phrase together as you paddle. It reminds people of what's happening, and while I seek escape in nature, the genocide is such an incredible atrocity that it should stay on people's minds.

Sarah Kendzior, @sarahkendzior.bsky.social, has had her fingers on the pulse of our society like no other journalist or author or anthropologist that I know of. One of the best independent writers to follow and subscribe to, imho

Powerbrokers pretend time is not a weapon, but a neutral or even positive force: a force that benefits the bereft by giving them hope. They pretend that hope is not a weapon either. But hope is the deadliest weapon when wielded for decades without sincere intent. Hope without deeds is an empty cup that turns, over time, into a poisoned one. It poisons the people who drink it, and it poisons the people who proffer it, as they serve it up again and again.

"It is strange to reread an interview from a time that felt very dark in an era that is far worse." - @sarahkendzior.bsky.social on our interview from 2013. I feel the same. I almost want to say that it was hard to imagine what was coming back then. But if you looked closely, it was all there.

Thank you again for allowing me to reprint this, Ryan! And yes, the pieces of the broken future were already in place. The trajectory became clear in the terrible chaotic year of 2014, and then accelerated after that...

"The assault on university life is part of a broader authoritarian agenda. Fascists seek a society where people lack not only the motive to learn, but also the means. Alternative avenues of education β€” libraries, search engines, archives, museums β€” are being shut down or restructured to curtail access to knowledge. Curiosity and community are under attack." -- Sarah Kendzior, "The End Times of Academia"

Curiosity, Nabokov once wrote, is insubordination in its purest form. It is also, as @sarahkendzior.bsky.social shows, a means of moral and imaginative survival that becomes more crucial by the day. Highest recommendation! open.substack.com/pub/sarahken...

So many gems in this piece, which among other things talks about the parallels b/w academia & journalism in a way that mirrors my experience.

"I...ditched academia for journalism - a move akin to leaving the Titanic for the iceberg." πŸ’―

"Ethnography is journalism that takes too long" - a banger!

Great introduction to why reading this 2013 interview is relevant to what’s going on in 2025. I appreciate the candor, and the truth, at least from my experience of academia over 40+ years. There is a kind of communication that is missing everywhere. Call it being real. Sarah Kendzior is real.
