Compared to the thoughtful reply I got from Senator Ruane when I contacted her earlier in the year, I am frankly insulted by McCarthy replying with self-exculpatory boilerplate that does not address any of the concerns I raised.
Gr*pt? Because the Press Council are useless

Sat down with @hmcevansoneya.bsky.social for an #EchoChamberPod Presidential Election special. He was, as always, brilliant. I hate that about him.

09.10.2025 19:56 — 👍 25 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Not sure there was much in the drivetime debate that would move the needle if one was undecided, little new (good or bad) from either candidate. Notable how much Humphreys was on the attack - if that will work or not remains to be seen.
09.10.2025 17:01 — 👍 10 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Really minor in the grand scheme of things, but Heather Humphreys claiming credit for hot school meals must come as news to Pauline O'Reilly and the Green Party

09.10.2025 15:21 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I felt she struggled as leader initially to be honest, and there is little indication of a broad revival in Labour's fortunes.
But she and her team have now repeatedly proven very efficient at elections, and she's weathered Alan Kelly's shenanigans very well in the last few months
I will say I've honestly been impressed with how Ivana Bacik has conducted herself during the presidential campaign, especially given the opposition within some elements of Labour
09.10.2025 15:14 — 👍 15 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Agree and I would add that it's genuinely upsetting to see as serious a topic as this boiled down into a gotcha, particularly by the self declared guardians of civility
09.10.2025 12:40 — 👍 9 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I don't think it's odd, no. The EC have taken the political education side of things very seriously and I dont see this as anything other than that
09.10.2025 10:22 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This is a perfectly reasonable video to make in the face of an unprecedented development that has caused a great degree of confusion among the public. I don't understand the issue and I think it's a good thing for the EC to be proactive and engaged with the public

08.10.2025 22:48 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Genuinely feel the attacks on substance early in the campaign, even if some of them were misleading, were much more relevant. The current character attacks feel somewhere between desperate and embarrassing for those making them
08.10.2025 17:54 — 👍 35 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 1I think if we have reached the stage where people are pretending not to understand what a "lawyer" is in order to attack Catherine Connolly, that they really do have very little on her
