On top of all the reporting that this war of aggression was planned well in advance, it seems that the reporting also indicates that the US political leadership are quite literally too stupid to understand basic diplomacy. I mean literally not smart enough.

Nothing is surprising about the US starting another war. Nothing is more dangerous to Earth and mankind at large than the United States and its complete and utter failure to curtail the worst excesses of humanity. The US oligarchy and its influence on global politics must end.

You can't hide behind the semantics of the source material and claim greater authenticity. That's fearing the job. Translation is a collaboration between you, the work, and the creators and unless you own your choices, you're not holding up your end of the bargain and you're misrepresenting theirs.

That doesn't mean don't take bold, creative leaps. But it means you have to be willing to stand by your work, your approach, and its individuality and be prepared to show receipts for it all. There's no truly neutral approach in creative translations and even so-called direct ones have consequences.

Last thread on the matter because it's been a long week, but if there's one piece of advice I can offer to fan translators who truly want to do a good job, it's this: be prepared to take ownership for your work. That's the number one thing I find lacking in many, man fan translations in general.

I say this as a professional who came up from fan translation and has friends at Sega who will likely never get to work on this officially: when you fan translate ANYTHING that was previously untranslated, you have a deep, heavy responsibility in setting people's first and typically only impression.

Like, sure, it says it underwent a "human translator" review, but...if you had a human translator who knew the language well enough to be up to the task, they would be smart enough to throw an MTL script out the window. MPTE is *never* done by choice, only by necessity.

I've seen a lot of Japanese creators post about it on Twitter, and thankfully, their responses are universally furious and disgusted at all parties involved, filtered through varying degrees of politeness over potentially not having all the facts. Plenty are suspending their own manga in protest.

Seems like the MangaOne/Shougakukan news is starting to get noticed in English, and quick content warning, the contents of the sexual abuse that the manga artist in question committed are really disgusting and you do not need to read them.

I can't say it doesn't have those vibes *at all*, but I feel like Touko is more meant to be the hobbyani rival/hater more than SM bait. She's not really portrayed as being in the right, and the older characters can see through her as an awkward kid who makes mistakes, not too different from Ataru.
