Because I live in the range of both Halysidota harrisii and Halysidota tesselaris, instead of saying "sycamore tussock moth" or "banded tussock moth" I just say "Halysidota moth" because I can't tell them apart 😭

Recently found out bruce spanworms exist and they look just like winter moths (but are native) and now I wonder how many bruce spanworms I've called winter moths over the years. And I also wonder what to call the moths I find because I can't tell them apart. Do I just call them "Operophtera moths?"

I'm so sad bug season went by so fast 😔 At least there are still some fall friends sticking around and the few year-rounders. Starting to see globular springtails again which is nice–it's kinda comforting that you can still find springtails and bristletails during otherwise bugless times of the year

Tan insect with a mottled dark brown pattern on its compact body. It has long, thin antennae and limbs. Its hind legs have thick femurs and all six legs have dark brown stripes across them.

Same insect as the previous photograph at a dorsal view, but angled a bit. You can see the mottled pattern both on its back and the tops of the femurs on its hind legs.

I found six camel crickets on the side of my house last night! They're pretty skittish so I tried not to bother them too much, but this one was pretty cool with getting his photo taken. I don't see them very often so it was a real treat. Aren't they adorable? 🐪🦗
