This is an important point. How often do you see people stepping out in front of behind vehicles blocking the way. That's much harder to do if you're travelling with kids (or have low/no vision, use a mobility aid or other reasons for requiring clear passage).

Whether you're looking to hold a ride in your neighbourhood, contribute your special skills, volunteer for one day or all season long - we want to hear from you.

Our Kids Deserve Better on School Streets [1/2] Show Us Your School Street! For many parents, especially of young kids, the school run can be one of the hardest, most anxiety-inducing parts of the day. Whether you're late for work, stuck in traffic, or just dealing with a stubborn kid, school drop-offs or pickups can be a stressful experience. We often blame the bad drivers in front of us or the rushed parents blocking us in, but if we step back—literally—we can see that the problem isn't just human behavior.

Safe school streets shouldn't be a luxury or a special "pilot project" we have to beg for—they should be the default setting for every child in our city.

I wonder if they considered spending $12.30 of their candy money on taking transit instead 😶‍🌫️

This city does not work for so many people, and certainly not for young people.

So here’s the epitome of #Autowa’s car-centric nature and the need to create walkable communities, where a 13 year-old can get his candy fix without stealing the family car for a sugar-deprived joyride down Strandherd.

When you build a world where kids can't walk anywhere to get candy this is a natural outcome.

Youth Independent Mobility should really be a key metric in a city's success. We all win.

There are three schools just off King Edward. Even when located a block away, young people and families live on both sides. They deserve to be able to get to school and back safely. Motorists, mostly from outside the neighbourhood, do not have a right to speed with its higher risk of killing them.

Ottawa has so many schools directly on arteries rather than 1 block off arteries like the city I was a teen in.

Jeanne d'Arc was planned as a traffic mover but has 2 elementary schools and a high school within about 5 blocks. Kids lose with these conflicted designs.

Courage should come from our councillors not our children; we are in the way of them living.

To make it safer for kids to play outdoors and independently parents need to demand that cities build infrastructure and public spaces that keeps them safe from drivers (touched on in this podcast).

That's what #KidicalMass is all about. Kids have a right to the city and a need to play.
