To prep for tonight's meeting we've tallied up our best estimates of how many people have participated so far across our 10 events throughout the city.
Who has a guess? ๐ฎ
Reminder! Thursday evening we're chatting plans to get kids on bikes ๐

This is an important point. How often do you see people stepping out in front of behind vehicles blocking the way. That's much harder to do if you're travelling with kids (or have low/no vision, use a mobility aid or other reasons for requiring clear passage).

New episode! Cara talks to Reece Martin of @RMTrasit on why our transit systems often fail families, and how we can fix them.
Watch here: www.youtube.com/watc...
Our streets are built for #cars and adults, leaving no safe space for a child's independence to grow. ๐โโ
Read to learn how we can collectively redesign streets and offer a way for children to reclaim their #freedom
Safe school streets shouldn't be a luxury or a special "pilot project" we have to beg forโthey should be the default setting for every child in our city.

I wonder if they considered spending $12.30 of their candy money on taking transit instead ๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ
This city does not work for so many people, and certainly not for young people.
So hereโs the epitome of #Autowaโs car-centric nature and the need to create walkable communities, where a 13 year-old can get his candy fix without stealing the family car for a sugar-deprived joyride down Strandherd.

When you build a world where kids can't walk anywhere to get candy this is a natural outcome.
Very glad everyone is okay. This is very scary. ๐ฌ
record player coffee and book drawings Prioritizing Youth Mobility Is Prioritizing Adult Relaxing when kids can walk, bike and roll safely/ independently, you can enjoy some peaceful time to yourself
Youth Independent Mobility should really be a key metric in a city's success. We all win.
09.01.2026 13:30 โ ๐ 105 ๐ 32 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 2There are three schools just off King Edward. Even when located a block away, young people and families live on both sides. They deserve to be able to get to school and back safely. Motorists, mostly from outside the neighbourhood, do not have a right to speed with its higher risk of killing them.

Ottawa has so many schools directly on arteries rather than 1 block off arteries like the city I was a teen in.
Jeanne d'Arc was planned as a traffic mover but has 2 elementary schools and a high school within about 5 blocks. Kids lose with these conflicted designs.
Courage should come from our councillors not our children; we are in the way of them living.

To make it safer for kids to play outdoors and independently parents need to demand that cities build infrastructure and public spaces that keeps them safe from drivers (touched on in this podcast).
That's what #KidicalMass is all about. Kids have a right to the city and a need to play.
Too true ๐
But - it doesn't have to be.
Join us in demanding better for kids. #KidicalMass

For residents of OCH communities, owning a bike can be life-changing. A bike can help them get to work & run errands.
This week, Brookfield is matching all donations up to $5,000. That means more bikes & more independence

Maybe we should start seriously figuring out how we can avoid driving as much as possible. We are killing children and destroying the life support system for all future generations. Perhaps maybe we can drive less?

Thank you to this teacher for speaking out and trying to protect their students.
It's heartening to hear those honks of support. Speed safety cameras are wildly popular - just not to reckless politicians.
