All scholarly Jews and Christians do believe in reincarnation, and will admit it - but then will say - Yes, God indeed reincarnates people, BUT! Then limit Him.
Elijah and Moses are expected to be reincarnated. Jesus said outright that John was Elijah, and Jews expect this.

The second idea I have is the more conventional, that suffering brings us closer to God. It helps us know we need Him, so we search for Him. "Pain makes me a believer."
I knew a homeless alcoholic who sought treatment because he was plagued by mosquitoes.

There are dozens of "lists of the damned" in the Bible, and we are all on all of them, and we are all NOT on all of them. Everyone will be a believer. The question was concerning God's love. It is not transactional.

The normative definition of atheist is a belief there is no God. Whatever you are or are not, it makes no difference to me. God is not a respecter of persons.

That's not close to anything the Bible says. God just loves us. He is love. There is nothing at all you can do to make Him love you any more or less.
If you want to learn what the Bible says, start with Luke. He was a physician, so he appeals to those who tend towards skepticism.

Islam has the same God as Christianity and Judaism. They are called the Abrahamic religions because we all worship the God of Abraham.
But as a believer in God, I can appreciate any other belief system's advantages, and love faith, prayer, etc. Atheists must think everyone is wrong but themselves.

I haven't ever thought about this - what is my place in the universe? Before Jesus came to me, I was satisfied that my children would be my gift to the world, that I would fall asleep and die one day, and that was it. I thought most Christians were terrible people.
