Policies like these are designed to demean trans people, to question their existence in every space & to send a message far beyond one state’s borders. Even when legal challenges move swiftly, as they are already underway via the ACLU, the emotional toll on trans people & their families is real.

Yesterday, Kansas lawmakers advanced two bills targeting transgender people: forcing trans residents to surrender accurate driver’s licenses and opening the door for private citizens to sue someone they believe is using the “wrong” restroom.

Let’s be clear: this is not about safety.

You shouldn't have to have a trans child, grandchild, friend, neighbor or coworker to care about the infringement of their rights...
