Another round of high winds are on the way Wednesday with widespread gusts over 40 mph. Another day with a high fire danger is also on the way tomorrow. #NMwx

The wind is starting to settle down across New Mexico, but it has been a very windy day! A nearly 100 mph wind gust was recorded at the San Augustin Pass between Las Cruces and Alamogordo. Several other 60+ mph wind gusts were also recorded across the state today. #NMwx

As of 4:00 pm, the newest highest wind gust in New Mexico today is 98 mph at the San Augustin Pass! #NMwx

A cold front has been dropping snow across western and northwestern New Mexico Tuesday morning. Winds are gusting 20 to 40 mph already, which could further reduce visibility and cause icy roads. #NMwx

The San Juan Mountains are about to have an amazing week! Up to 50" of snow is possible through Friday! Wolf Creek could see over 4 feet of snow, and Purgatory could see up to 3 feet. Southern CO will be the big winner, but NM’s mountains will also see some fresh snow this week. #NMwx #COwx

By the afternoon and evening, most of the state will have a chance for precipitation. Snow mainly stays above 8,000’, with anywhere from 2" to 10" depending on elevation. The storm moves out early Saturday morning. #NMwx

New Mexico's snowpack is sitting at just 38% of normal right now, the second lowest on record to date. Records go back to 1987. The worst year to date was in 2018 when it was at 28% of normal. #NMwx

New Mexico's next storm will move in Friday, February 13 through Saturday morning. Precipitation will peak Friday evening into Friday night. Widespread precipitation is looking likely with accumulating snow above 7,000'. 3-8" of snow is likely with higher amounts above 10,000'. #NMwx

A wildfire in eastern New Mexico has closed State Road 469 near San Jon. The 352 Fire is currently 1,000 acres and growing in 35 mph wind gusts and 9% humidity. #NMFire #NMwx

The International Space Station passed right over Albuquerque this afternoon! It was moving northwest to southeast. You can also see Santa Fe, the Rio Grande, the Jemez and Sandia Mountains!

Talk about extremes!

The warmth in Albuquerque over the past four months has been remarkable and a bit alarming. Each month has ranked among the top five warmest on record. Taken together, this October through January period was nearly 3° warmer than the previous warmest period. #NMwx

Just kidding! These UFO looking clouds are called lenticular clouds. They form when air flows over the mountains, rising, cooling, and condensing into these smooth, lens-shaped clouds.
