"Boiling the frog" is exactly right. Happened with DLC, happened with MTX, trying atm with AI. And as usual, both consumers and the devs themselves are going to suffer for it. The only way to stop this is to reject it completely. Compromise only delays. Indie and personal projects all the way babyyy

Anyway that's your testo lore for the day. I wish I could call it a rant but 1) character limits and 2) I'm too exhausted by it to be mad. Just hope people keep listening and keep fighting back. It's pretty bad right now but the qualifying statements are a sign sanity is winning. Don't relax yet.

I'd never seen morale as low across the board as it was during the "exciting" period of AI integration. That's why I refuse to support even an iota of it until we have proper human-first regulations. Any use right now supports The Wave and the rape of an industry and a career I used to love.

Worst part is our company for the most part treated us extremely well and I always felt really lucky for working there. But this AI push is so aggressive and so widespread that if enough people get carelessly amped up for it, it can completely destroy a workplace within months.

I saw the writing on the wall and quit after we lost 1/3 of our team. I heard a month later another 1/3rd was let go again due to "decreasing workload"- only for them to fuck up and send out an email announcing "exciting new AI opportunities" within those exact positions before the day was over.

That's exactly how it went down where I worked. Client did a series of "ramp downs" that were supposedly only related to "decreasing workload," only to rollout new AI systems literally within a week of each round of firings. Was both internal and gutted 3rd party support as well.

Don't fall for the "well we won't use it for ART" bs either. This stuff isn't being used to help employees right now, in fact in most cases forced integration makes the job a fucking headache and makes internal comms feel fake as hell. Every level of dev is affected- for what devs survive the cuts.

Having worked in the industry for a decade, this is 100% how it works. I'd rather avoid telling people I draw horse pussy the rest of my life than spend one more minute working for a company that promises literally to your face they won't replace people with AI and then kills 1/3 of the team for it.
