I love how Test cricket can provide you a sporting contest that lasts 6 weeks and ends in a draw, and is still viewed as one of the great Test series.

In my experience, quality is entirely uncorrelated with size. Or even with quality/experience of developers. It's completely dependent on the team culture and processes.

I've seen so many teams and styles of management in my (fairly) long career. My conclusion regarding management is that all you really need is alignment and motivation. If you provide those things you will get quality and velocity.

AI model progression so far:

1. scaled inference until diminishing returns hit
2. pivot to agents to extract "reasoning", but no killer app
3. doctor models for political gain <-- we are here

We're in the dangerous phase now, because the focus has switched to influence and manipulation.

My hot take for the day: the battle between the big AI players is for political control rather than to create intelligence.

They know AGI will not be achieved, but they need to grab land.

If every person in the world uses AI to get their information, the AI clients have complete control over them.

Assuming the AI bubble does indeed burst, and demand for compute drops through the floor, what are all those data centres going to be used for?

I got Claude to write the readme as if it were a TED talk, and I'm not unhappy with the result.

It will need fleshing out with actual details, of course, but I love the tone as an intro.

I described it as a framework, but it's not really. It's more of a system, or architecture, with frameworky bits bolted on.

Presumably, Lumo is better than most people can run locally. There is surely a good crossover of people who both value privacy and can't run a 280b model locally.

And this means that you're removing all the fun from coding, whilst still doing the annoying parts. You're also removed from the context, so your understanding is less.

Does anyone else feel like even though you might be faster, you're left with an odd feeling of emptiness when coding with AI?

Working with Claude Code is, in many ways, deeply unsatisfying. It's not so good that you can just talk architecture to it and let it handle the details. You have to pick it up on tiny details like type errors, API regressions, or bad DX.

We should be designing our frameworks such that the velocity remains high for as long as possible.

It's always funny when you're having a long conversation with 4o and it starts talking in Welsh.

There's no way I'm touching a web browser from an AI company. On my list of things to do, it's below walking across the living room floor after my kids' latest lego session.
