The level of distrust in Universities and their workers for incoming students this fall is so palpable you can feel it in every zoom /seminars even offers of anonymity don’t seem to work. Knowing institutions, they will be probably be wondering what is wrong with this cohort of students.

It is one thing to position a subject or set of peoples as the Other of a dominant discourse. It is quite another thing to subject them to that "knowledge," not only as a matter of imposed will and domination, but by the power of inner compulsion and subjective conformation to the norm.-Stuart Hall

Usians online marketing is wild, but what is more insane is how medical drugs are advertised as if it were candy, with even a β€œhow to get your insurance to approve”. Specially all these weight loss medications. Anti-fatness is really an industry.

It is a very interesting time for American journalism as in school we are taught that certain institutions have authority and generally trusted as sources, but what happens when the primary sources that lend authority to stories are not publicly trusted by the audiences media serves ?

One of the interesting journalism programs I did was run by @jayrosen.bsky.social the program is structured to respond to journalism industry problems. I wonder what the program looks like now given the current media environment where institutional trust isn’t a given for authority β€œsources”.

Countries in Eastern Africa have a complicated history with East-Africans of Indian descent. Racially the tensions still remain as majority because of colonialism Indians got the capitalism fruits of the British empire. Indian anti-blackness isn’t new it is an open secret.

Moreso, the very creation of nation-states in Africa is a product of colonial anti black violence. The post independence transitions can not hold as large ethnic groups were clustered for European capital extraction and exploitation, so states continue to use violence to legitimize its illegitimacy.

Hot take on militarism presidency in African countries;
As someone born under one of those β€œfreedom fighters” the initial stages are interesting and liberating for those alive at the moment after surviving coups , however aftermath of power trips, they turn into the dictators they always were.

most people seem to think the current geopolitical madness is temporary and things will eventually swing back. hate to tell say it but so long as tech oligarchs control large platforms, media & the knowledge ecosystem, this will likely remain the new normal
