Thinking of both of my grandfathers on Veteran's Day. My paternal grandfather was a doctor in the army. My maternal grandfather was in the army and stationed in Florida. Both in WWII; both complex figures with complex legacies. My father worked in the Public Health Service at the CDC. Grateful.

We received a bit of good news today. Our department received an IU Indianapolis Institute for Engaged Learning grant to implement high impact learning practices into our courses beginning next semester. Very excited to integrate more project based learning into our teaching and assessments.

A lot of my research integrates learning science and music technology pedagogy. The hard part is finding the right balance and way of presenting what are sometimes abstract concepts in a practical way.

I have no issue submitting elsewhere. I also don't disagree with many of the comments. It just feels like lazy editing. We do this in good faith and it feels somewhat dismissive not to find a compromise towards publication. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

I get that competitive journals don't have a lot of space. I'm puzzled by this one because it's not the first time it's happened, and I'm confused as to why they would reject the positive feedback and only focus on the new comments brought on by nitpicky reviewers. What am I missing here?
09.10.2025 14:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1
We're coming up on a year of work. I'm not new to rejection. But I can't help but be frustrated. Stringing along R&Rs without a reasonable set of expectations is a waste of time. I've asked them to reconsider their decision. As an editor, I find R&Rs are generally a path towards publication. Odd.
09.10.2025 14:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
After addressing a reviewer's concerns, that person somehow identified NEW issues as a result of what they asked me to change. So, the editors send out to a fourth reviewer, not familiar with the context, who wasn't happy. The journal rejects with no particular reason. I'm torn on this one for sure.
09.10.2025 14:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
An article for a top journal goes through two rounds of revision. Each time, I responded to all of the comments and addressed concerns within word counts. After the first round, one reviewer recommended publication. After the second round, one brought up minor points. That's not where it ends.

A whole lot of people are fighting these days. Just know that you are seen and appreciated.
