I feel like there used to be more understanding that if you punish people the same for mild acts of protest and actual terrorism you just make terrorism look more appealing.

I highly recommend reading this excellent piece by @lauraewebster.bsky.social as a perfect example of exactly how journalists should be reacting to Rowling, and how they need to be calling anti-trans groups out for what they are. Transphobia has been "legitimised" for far too long by far too many.

The problem for the government now is that it has to justify to its own MPs why it could u-turn for a household on £30,000 a year losing £200-£300, but not for a disabled person losing £10,000 a year, at once, because of the government’s choices.
