AI marketing really is a triumph of fiction over reality. We all know, basically, that most widely available LLMs are more than a bit silly and way more than a bit dangerous, yet somehow there are countless people willing to throw their lot in with the mega-rich backing them, just on the off chance.

Such a pleasure for @glexareen.bsky.social & me to participate in the USQ-hosted workshop ‘Deliberation & Contestation in Multinational Democracies’ and present (the latest instalment of) our work on the limits of legal pluralism. Many thanks to the participants for the engagement & feedback.

Decisions have now been made. I have tried to email everyone who submitted; however, if you slipped through the cracks, please accept my apologies! At this stage, if you have not heard back from me with an acceptance, unfortunately we cannot include your abstract within our special issue. 2/2

Many thanks to everyone who submitted abstracts to @jenhendry.bsky.social and me for "Global Law and Particular Legalities: Essays in Honour of William Twining". We received an overwhelming number of submissions (well over 80 abstracts), with a very high standard of work across the board. 1/2

A very thought- provoking book. Highly recommended for those interested in the practical and doctrinal ambiguities associated with acquisition of statehood.

Really great to see another review of my @cambup-law.cambridge.org monograph, Statehood as Political Community, this time in Constitutional Studies. Thanks very much to @cherylas1.bsky.social for such close engagement with my arguments there!

AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

“The resistance is spreading beyond California. Dutch university faculty have issued an open letter calling for a moratorium on AI in academic settings, warning that its use ‘deskills critical thought’ and reduces students to operators of machines.”

There isn't a single problem "solved" by edtech that couldn't be fixed with smaller classes led by well-paid teachers given real academic freedom

It was really great to share my ongoing research on 'Wagnerian Jurisprudence' with colleagues at the PKU School of Transnational Law. Thanks so much to Norman Ho for inviting me!

shoved this into my "to buy" bookmarks folder because 1) I have enough things to read right now, and 2) it's like $150 books on kobo, which would be fine, but 3) it's like 300 pages, and I just bought the first three Temeraire novels because I need to Not use my brain for a while

He may be a moral philosophy bro but his outcomes and ethics are sound in spite of that. The book is excellent and well worth your time

This looks like a great opportunity if you have any interest in things like socio-legal, law in context, law and globalisation, teaching of law, legal theory, or comparative law.

As a teacher and scholar, I knew William best @laws.ucl.ac.uk, where he taught me over a number of years. His interests were broad and his contributions various. In particular, we are looking for papers on (long 🧵):
1. Comparative law and comparative legal studies.
2. General jurisprudence...
