In and around Portland, teachers are missing more school than ever. Their bosses don't want to talk about it It's not just students. Post-pandemic, teachers are also missing significantly more school days. Oregon has virtually no policies in place to counteract the trend.

To write a lengthy article about a (hugely overstated) "teacher absentee crisis" and not talk to a single teacher currently working in Oregon schools is quite unfortunate. The framing here encourages people to pick sides instead of working together to solve any potential problem that might exist.

Last week, CCEA declared an impasse after bargaining with Clackamas County since early 2024. We are now submitting our final offers and are waiting to see the County’s final offers.

The fight must be made here and now and we need hunters, anglers, ranchers, and everyone else to push back.

All teachers want is adequate funding, smaller class sizes to give our students the education they deserve and to not live paycheck to paycheck. We’d also appreciate people listening to us about what works in education instead of highly paid consultants and people who haven’t taught since pre-Covid.

Look we have to get real that the market has limits. Only reasonable planning and regulation that originates from a democratically controlled civic system is going to work here. The invisible hand cannot *make* a nacho, much less provide it where it is needed.
