I had to leave for an event just minutes before this. The crowd was full of kids, elders, and dogs, all peaceful, marching with union banners. The plumes that I saw went up from a distance are just bonkers.

And this is why say ABOLISH. They are galvanizing the resistance with this violence.

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

Just went to multi-union anti-ICE protest near Portland ICE building. Big crowd, mostly nurses, educators, SEIU workers, & families. Resolute but calm & peaceful. Big strong ICE men were scared & tear gassed us anyway. I'm ok but won't soon forget elderly folks & babies in distress. #ICEoutforGood

DHS just unloaded a massive amount of teargas on the big labor rally at the PDX ICE facility.

Just before this the crowd was chanting "Show us your face!"

That turned into cries of "There are children here!"

Affordable for *who*? We need to increase affordability for working families with things exactly like universal preschool, and the tax on top earners that pays for it (approved by voters!).

6,000 faculty members at Penn State has filed for a union.

These professors and other faculty will vote on unionizing in the coming year.

If they win their union it will be the largest public union in Pennsylvania.

In and around Portland, teachers are missing more school than ever. Their bosses don't want to talk about it It's not just students. Post-pandemic, teachers are also missing significantly more school days. Oregon has virtually no policies in place to counteract the trend.

To write a lengthy article about a (hugely overstated) "teacher absentee crisis" and not talk to a single teacher currently working in Oregon schools is quite unfortunate. The framing here encourages people to pick sides instead of working together to solve any potential problem that might exist.
