Yes that helps, not the place I’m thinking of, but equally spectacular. Thanks.

The setting is illuminated by a single overhead light, casting soft, muted lighting across the scene. The platform extends toward the left, with the distant tracks fading into darkness. The composition conveys stillness, quiet tension, and the emotional weight of parting.
I’d call this painting The Long Goodbye, but its official title is Soldier & Girl at Station, a 1953 work by Canadian artist Alex Colville, as seen at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

The god is depicted with youthful, idealized features, wearing a winged helmet that marks him as the swift messenger of the gods. Made from matte black basalt stoneware, the bust combines classical elegance with 18th-century industrial craftsmanship.
Mercury, sometimes called Hermes—or Hermis in Arabic. I think I took this picture at the British Museum, but I can’t be sure—he gets around a bit. Famously known as a cattle thief, messenger, travel guide, and a bit of a trickster.

The photo was taken in the Drill Shed at the Royal Marines base in Deal, Kent, which no longer exists. At that time, the first stage of Royal Marines training started at Deal before trainees were transferred to the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre at Lympstone.
Me, a lifetime ago—receiving an award from Maj. General Whiteley for being the best shot in my troop with the Self-Loading Rifle (SLR 7.62mm). I didn’t tell him that, next to me on the range was the worst shot in the troop, whose stray rounds were probably hitting my target.

I agree—my only caveat is that the gut is sometimes shaped by social & personal prejudice/bias, so ask it some hard questions before trusting—but I suspect your dad added that warning too.
