I track campaign finance in Texas, connecting the “what” to the “why” with my wife, @mentack.bsky.social Started http://seeitnameitfightit.com. Lots of talk about numbers, campaign finance, a spotlight on Christian nationalism, and some punk rock.

I was re-reading this post from @mentack.bsky.social this morning. It was true two years ago. I think it’s true today. What do you think? (Click the link to read it)

Some will tell you primaries don’t matter, what we see in March doesn’t translate into November. They are wrong.
March sends a strong signal for what is to come. And 2026 has sent one heck of a signal. I wrote about it. Please read it and share it. Click the link.

188k votes for Dems in a Tarrant County midterm primary.
61.7% of those voting for Democrats were Female
3 of the top 4 race / gender splits were female
21% White Female
21.1% Black Female
12.4% Latina (white dudes were 15.5%)
5.5% of Dem voters had no voting history
36.3% were General only
😳
I wanted to share what looks like the final counts from the 2026 Tarrant County Primaries for total turnout, comparing it all the way back to 2014
33k above highest Dem count (2020)
114k above highest Dem midterm (2022)
Highest D/R ratio at 1.29 (beating 1.24 in 2020)
A lot of wind in the sails
A whole lot of us have already voted, but statistically there is 40%+ of folks who wait until Election Day. Here are the actual breakdowns by vote type since 2018.
Where do we think we land after today? Will it stay above 40% on ED? Or dip under like 2024?
Fingers flying, data crunching almost crashing laptops, charts created. All rolled up into my Tarrant County Primaries Early Vote wrap. Read it. Share it. And come back on March 4th to see what might have changed on Election Day (3/3).

The chart tells the story. There hasn’t been this kind of energy, anything CLOSE to this kind of energy, for Democrats in years. Will it carry into Tuesday? R’s had a lot of turnout too, but couldn’t match D’s.

Today it’s two new charts, comparisons of what my data shows as the race and gender breakdowns through 9 days of EV in Tarrant County
Not a ton of conclusions, as no group is monolith, but it is fascinating data. Well, it’s probably safe to draw a conclusion on the Republican one. 😏
Only 2 days of EV in the 2026 Tarrant County Primaries left. I keep saying it. Wow.
Dems have seen 85,861 cast an early vote
Reps have seen 62,679 EV
The D/R ratio stands at 1.37
The charts shows you where it has been
Keep it up!

Here is the last part of my conversation with our next Governor, TX Rep @ginafortexas.bsky.social. She gets it. She’s passionate about doing the right thing for Texans.
I voted for her last week. I hope you have, or will, and then show up for her and all the rest of the Dem candidates in November.
I wanted to point out that EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. of Early Voting so far in Tarrant County has seen Democrats outvoting Republicans by at minimum an 1,800 vote gap (and that was day one). Amazing.
Can Democrats keep it up through the last three days of Early Voting? And Election Day? We shall see 🤞
8 Days of Tarrant County Primary voting is complete, 3 to go, and then Election Day is 3/3.
Dems now have turned out 75,357, Reps 54,299. That’s a 1.39 D/R ratio.
In 2018 the ratio after 8 days was 0.68.
2020 - 0.83
2022 - 0.52
2024 - 0.42
#seeitnameitfightit
The percentages may still shift some. But hey, the R’s are in horrible shape, so there is that 😏

When I sat down last week with our next Governor, Rep Gina Hinojosa, the question of who voted in the TXSD9 Runoff came up. Was it Republicans who drove the win? I walked through it (so this clip is almost all me), talking about strategic primary voters and running on values.
Hint: It was Democrats
Day 6 of the Early Vote in the Tarrant County Primary election is complete. Yes, the margin continues to grow. Democrats are now up over 16.6k votes. We are at a 1.42 D/R ratio.
Context (D votes / R votes):
2018 - 0.66
2020 - 0.82
2022 - 0.53
2024 - 0.40
I’ll do another full report after Day 7
Yep, the R primary has some legit races drawing attention. And you can see it in their elevated turnout too. But the Dems are still just that much higher.
